HELP!
I am now defeated on my current PC build and am pleading for some advice. This might be a long story - I'll try and keep it short
FOR INFO - As my main problem was not even being able to boot to BIOS, I will not include details of HDD / SDD / sundries installed
This is what I tried to build:
CPU - Intel i7 3770K (3rd Gen, Ivy Bridge, 8Mb L3 Cache, Intel Turbo Boost 2.0)
Motherboard - Asus Maximus V Gene
RAM - 2x4GB - Kingston HyperX Genesis PnP (Grey) DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (slotted in ports 1 and 3)
PSU - XFX PRO 750W ATX PSU
GPU - Palit GeForce GTX 680 Jetstream (2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0)
(also Blu-Ray, SSD, 2xHDD, Corsair H80i CPU Watercooler, etc etc)
Turned it on and nothing. Motherboard gave an error code, but can't remember what it was, and computer wouldn't even boot to BIOS.
I tried replacing the Intel i7 with an Intel G630 (as it was another Socket 1155 processor I had) Still nothing. An error bleep, and the screen stayed blank. Tried removing the GPU and booting with the display on the motherboard - still nothing. I tried re-arranging the ram (slots 1 & 3, 2 & 4, 1 & 2, 1 on its own, 2 on it's own etc etc) STILL nothing. No display output and still woudn't boot to BIOS.
Dismantled everything, and fitted the components to another motherboard - an Asus P8H61-MX Motherboard. This time everything powered up fine. Computer is working with the exception that I am now using a 61 chipset, which means limited to SATA2 instead of SATA3, and no USB 3.0 either. Plus there's only 2 Ram slots. Figured this meant the motherboard was faulty and returned it.
Computer works fine like this. I did have my SSD fail, and my GPU stop working at one point. Both were replaced and are working fine now. Computer works well as a gaming machine and handles everything I throw at it for the last 6 months, but I wanted SATA 3 and USB 3.0, plus I needed more SATA ports and thought about more RAM slots, so decided to upgrade the motherboard, and wanted a z77 chipset. This time I bought the Asrock Z77 Pro 4.
Connected everything up to it, and once again, NOTHING. No boot to bios, no display output. Not working! Litterally tried removing everything from the computer with the exception of PSU, Processor, CPU Fan and RAM. This should have at least booted to BIOS with a "No Boot Device Detected" message, but still nothing. Even tried it again with the Intel G630. No output, not display, no BIOS.
Taking a long shot, I assumed it might be the RAM. I knoew mine was a good brand, but the actual model I purchased did not appear on the "Authorised Memory List" for the motherboard. So, I purchased 2 x 4GB Kingston HyperX Genesis (not the Blu range, but the ones that are blue in colour. Model KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX - which I know is on the authorised list for both mobo and CPU) - and, you guessed it - Still nothing.
I've reconnected all the original components to the Asus P8H61-MX (but using the new Blue Ram, rather than the Grey to make sure it works) and it fires up just fine. The only difference between the Asus P8H61-MX and the Asrock z77 Pro 4, is the Pro 4 uses a slighty different second power connector for the mobo itself.
I think considering the fact that I'm having the same problem with the Asrock Z77 that I did with the Asus Maximus V Gene, that it's not a problem with the Mobo, but is in fact a problem with something I'm connecting up to it. As stated before I know the Z77 chipset uses 8 pin secondary power connector rather than the 4 used in my Asus motherboard, but I don't know whether that would stop the thing booting up all together. I'm out of ideas.
Any suggestions???
