I just replaced a eVGA 8800 GTS with an XFX 6850 on a Windows XP system having a QX9650 3.0 GHZ Core 2 Quad processor. The gaming performance is much better as expected. However I am noticing a glitch while running Windows XP. Sometimes the application windows don't refresh fully. Like if I move an Internet Explorer window around the screen (and partially off screen), it may come back not looking correct until I force a refresh (place another window over it). It doesn't always happen. I am running the latest Catalyst Drivers 10.10b (10.10c is only for Windows 7 right now). Anyone find a similiar issue?

XFX 6850 Windows XP Desktop Problem

it works just fine on Windows 98. 
I'd rather not install Windows 7 if at all possible at this point. Maybe they'll come out with another patch for Windows XP soon? I have 30 days to give the card back. And I don't think I can use the 10.9 drivers with the new 6850 card in order to try older drivers. When I look to reproduce the problem it occurs if I move the internet explorer (or even worse the outlook window) really fast around the screen a few times. Though in normal use it pops up here and there.
Mine is very random, similar to your conditions as well. I have been procrastinating the 7 install. I really needed a reason to make the switch... Gaming has been fine though, I went from a 9800gt to the 6850 gaming seems quicker/smoother but I only play BF2.

Why do you get a Dx11 card for an OS that only supports up to Dx9 and whose support was officially discontinued by Microsoft at last?

Sorry but Windows 7 really is more than good enough to warrant the instalation, and if you have some weird app that can't be run through compatibility suite then you can always dual boot

yeah it only takes a few minutes to install. when I get to the desktop after a fresh install I do not have to install any basic driver except for my sound card.

I thought ATI announced they were not making Windows XP drivers anymore?
But yea, Get windows 7, its time to leave XP behind, specially when Windows 7 has a Windows XP emulation program if you REALLY need xp pro.

Yeah I am going to move to Windows 7 after I finish a few older games that won't play nice with it. I'm hoping that there will be a patch in the meantime. For a gamer, nothing is really compelling me to go to Windows 7 immediately. Almost all games run under XP and DirectX 9. The developers seem hesitant to move to the newer DirectX versions that would force an upgrade. Anyway this is a bit off topic...
Not as much, the thing is that with a new product it is mostly logical for them to be sure to work with what is currently supporting all his features, in this case Windows 7 and Vista.
XP would be an afterthought in this case is what i wanted to subtly point out.
And well i might be wrong too, but with the issues of 4gb ram max with a good ammount eaten by mapping on a 32bit OS like XP i would think that it could compel you to move on :-S too
Maybe the glitch could have to do with the memory mapping part of the drivers for the 6800's?
