I'm thinking of picking up the XFX HD-685X and was wondering if this is a good pickup? I run two 3870s that have served me well on the gaming front. Games like Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and Assassin's Creed II are showing me that my cards have aged and can't keep up as well. The card seems to be clocked at default speeds. (775MHz GPU 1000MHz RAM) I'm just trying to gauge if I could OC this to Black Edition OC levels and how far I could go before I need after market cooling. I'm planning to put an Arctic Accelero S1 rev1 I have on it. I'm just not sure if it is compatible or not.

Future game I'm planning to pick up are:

AC Brotherhood
AC Revelations
BF3

6850 generally overclock very well, and like any card more so,if the GPU voltage can be adjusted. The stock cooling seem ok for stock speeds, but personally I haven't used that model.

The accelero cooler should be compatible.
