considering buying the xfx 6800 from newegg to replace my evga 6200 ... i want it for playing bf2... thoughts on this card?

newegg doesn't have an msi version :( ... any recommendations?

They have the xfx for $144 after rebate..

Can you point me towards an msi somewhere?

xfx is a great company. i don't get why people knock it so much? the 6800 is a decent card and for $144, that's a hell of a good deal, and you'll probably be able to unlock the pipes! go for it! :)

The XFX is probably the worst company you could go with, they use cheap parts and are not that good. Try the MSI.

I saw the exact same card on newegg. Xfx is a good company, but I dont like the way this card looks. The cooling solution doesn't even cover all of the chips.. I would deff say that overclocking/unlocking pipes on this card wouldnt be recomended. Spend a few extra dollars and get one that is a bit better quality.

Even a good quality 6600gt would be a much better buy AND still a huge step up from your 6200.

Whats wrong with XFX ? They got the good warranty going too. That said I also think the cooling looks pretty cheap, but hey for the price you could add a vf700-cu and make it alright.

well, newegg doesn't have an msi agp 6800... they do however have the evga for 155 after rebate, and an apollo for about 165... so maybe I'll go for one of those instead of the xfx

i got the evga 6800 for my brother just recently, would buy it again too, very happy with it.

I have had an XFX 6600GT (PCI-Ex16, 128mb GDDR3, 128 bit, 550 mhz, 1050mhz) for about 6 months now and love it. I have had no problems what so ever with it. I regularly play Battlefield 2, I have all settings on high, 2x AA, at 1280x960 (keeping 4:3 aspect ratio), 95% visibility and it runs flawlessly. My next card will definitely be the XFX 7800GT in the next couple of months. I think you should try it out, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Are you on crack? You must be missing something.

6600GT 128-bit memory interface, 8 pipes and 4 shaders
6800NU 256-bit memory interface, 12 pipes unlockable to 16 and 5 shaders unlockable to 6

Even a shitty no-name 6800 would out perform even a top-of-the-line 6600GT. Not by much, but your logic is terribly flawed, sir.

Don't listen to these jokers that've probably never owned either of these cards. That 6800 for $144 is a killer card with headroom to overclock higher and unlock extra hardware components for extra power per-clock. XFX, while I don't like them, aren't nearly as bad as these people are saying. What personal proof do any of you have against XFX? I seriously doubt any of you have any.

QFT, where IS the proof that XFX is bad ? rofl

i say go for it, i have a 6600gt xfx and it's a great card! [H] gave xfx a good review a while back as well.

also are the pci-e versions of the 6800 unlockable? how bout the 256mb versions? and can you do 2 in sli?

thanks.

I have a XFX 6800GT and I bought it over a year ago and it hasn't gave me any problems, and it easily overclocks to Ultra speeds, even though thats not so much of a big deal anymore.

Awesome.. thanks guys.. I was getting a little worried that the XFX was 'junk'.. Thanks for easing my concerns. I have ordered it and will see how it goes.

Hopefully with my machine (see sig), it will allow me to run BF2 on high settings without getting 'choppy'.. that's my main goal.

no the pcie versions are not unlockable. but you can get 256mb versions which is nice, and the pcie version of the 6800 core tends to overclock a bit better, and yes you can run them in sli, thats what i do :) so, no you can't unlock pipes, but its made up for a bit by option to have 256mb of ram, possibly better overclocks, and sli. 6800's are no slouch and even one will do you fine for awhile, my ahtlon xp system made short work of the fear demo with an agp 6800.

The XFX PCI-e version of the 6800 is just WOW, bought it for a client and coolbits autodetected 460mhz core and more than 1000mhz on the RAM, the guy gets 5300 in 3dmark2005, I think thats just great since I get 5600 on my system in sig, makes wanna oc higher.

The XFX 6800 is a great card. XFX had some problems with its custom 6600GT cooler, but you don't have to worry about this with the 6800 as it uses the reference fan.

Hey, I have the AGP XFX 6800NU, and it's awesome. I took off the stock cooling and put on Zalman's ZM80D-HP (I think that's the right model #, just going off the top of my head) and it's running completely passive, idle at 58C right now, can peak at 73-81C depending on ambient (my room temp fluctuates a lot) and still runs great. With Coolbits I'm at 350/775. I wasn't able to unlock the extra pipes and vertex shaders without artifacts in 3dMark05, but oh well - it does help frames per second, both in games and in benches, but the card already performs well.

I'm sure your XFX 6800 will work wonderfully for you.

i am on my second xfx card now... i had a bfg 6800 gt before, but they are bitches about modding the cards and overclocking. xfx is actually cool with it as long as you don't damage the pcb. my xfx 6600 and my 7800gtx are both solid cards.

No im not on crack and YES I have owned BOTH cards. The 6800 that I owned had a MUCH better cooling solution than the one picture and for you to even mention that the card pictured has "plenty of overhead" for overclocking is a suretell sign that YOU have absolutly no clue as to what your talking about.. Look at the cooling solution on it.. your telling me that with all of the chips exposed except for the gpu that you can overclock with out a hitch??? PLEASE. As for personal proof? When did I ever say that I didn't think that XFX is a good company?! DO NOT put words in my mouth. I have owned a 6600, 6800 and tested a 6600gt with XFX so dont ASSume anything buddy.

2 monitors.
1 running whatever you want to use
and the other running the temp guage from Nvidia's control panel.

The early revisions of the XFX 6800NU are absolutely horrible. I had to RMA that card 3 times in a year due to failure or corrupted graphics. Afer the third RMA it looks like the card might hold up for a while. I wasnt able to unlock the pipes on the 2nd RMA but I havent tested it on the third. O yeah, the cooling solution on the card is also bad it doesnt keep temperatures very stable and they at times can reach above 100c, but I gave the card to a friend so I havent tested the latest RMA, but again, the latest version seems to be a much better card. Your might want to look into that zalman cooler, I wouldnt recommend the NV5 cooler, it does perform well but it also can put unessacary stress on the card.

It looks like the one on NewEgg is a later revision with the Aluminum reinforcement at the top of the card, so it might be decent. For only $144 I would say its a wise investment.

I guess if you are a optimist you can look at the brightside of things, XFX's RMA program is excellent...

Well the thing is you can buy the xfx+zalman vf700-cu for the price of a retail evga.
