XFX 6600 GT problem

Hi, i just got a XFX 6600 GT (AGP), and im happy with it, but for some reason my monitor shuts off (and i can only fix this by rebooting the computer) during gaming. Is it my power supply (crappy 300w)? I used coolbits to set the graphics card to set the card to "performance 3D" which puts the core clock frequency from 300mhz (at the standard 2D setting) to 500mhz. After every time my system f*cks up, the clock is set back to 300mhz. I thought the default speed of 660GTs were 300mhz? Whats going on?

The mhz thing you do not need to worry about. It is set at 300mhz for 2D operations, and goes automatically to 500mhz for 3D operations. That is the stock speed for the 6600GT's.

Never overclock the 2D speed... no need. :)

As far as the monitor shutting off, try setting monitor to never turn off under power management. It *could* be your power supply.

thanks, but its not only the monitor shutting off, when i try to turn it back on, it doesnt, only when i re boot the whole system does the monitor work

do i have to run a seperate power line from teh psu to the 6600 Gt card?

You don't *have* to, but you can sure try it... won't cost you anything.

Wait, you didn't connect a power cable to the card itself? On AGP versions you need to, otherwise things get fubar'd.

Btw, what psu do you have? Don't give us wattage, give model and brand, etc. Specifics help.
 
I would first count up how many watts you are using. Then subtract 50 watts fromt he power rating. That will give yout he aproximate value of QUALITY watts you get. Make sure you have at least 20 amps on your 12v rails.
And try to always run seperate lines to the HDs and Vid Cards. It's better to spilt the rest for lights and cd drives IMO.

I didn't know you had to connect the card to a line, i swear it wasnt in the instructions! Thanks for the help anyway guys, im an idiot
