xfx 5870 problem

just received my new card and installed the latest drivers. prior i uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and ran registry cleaner.

with the new ATI card and drivers installed my windows score went down from 7.3 in both gaming graphics and graphics to 6.0....

My previous card was a 260GTX...

whats going on?
 
not sure why people rely on the windows score so much its anything but accurate...from what i gather. personally i woudlnt worry about it........if games are performing like you wish then i wouldnt be concerned about the windows score.
 
I am guessing that the lower power 2D mode of the 5870 doesn't perform as well as the 2D mode of the GTX260? when not in 3D mode the 5870 goes into a very conservative state with greatly reduced clocks and power use... that's my WAG. (wild ass guess)
 
There was a thread about a similar result going from nVidia to AMD card.
It ended up being remains of old drivers causing it.
I'd try Driver Sweeper along with CCleaner, (in SafeMode) after uninstalling the current driver. Then reinstall and try it again.
 
Cleaned the drivers with driver sweeper and it found some stuff left but that didnt help.

After doing some searching it appears to be a driver issue thats tied to 64bit systems.
If someone with a 5870 can chime in on this, then please do
 
The 5870 is amazing but it won't get a 6.0 at 157/300. I'm fairly certain WEI uses 3D clocks.

I'd check for remnants of older drivers.
 
i have, nothing left, no registry, no folders, nothing tied to nvidia
 
On my system it dropped from a 7.7 to a 6.0 when I uninstalled the 9.11 drivers and installed the 9.12's (and the hotfix). It doesn't affect anything performance-wise, but it is a little strange.
 
Going from 9.12 to 9.12 hotfix took me from 6.0 to 7.5 on my 5770. Truly odd stuff here.:confused:

We can only confirm that WEI doesn't matter, which isn't news anyway.
 
Here Running XFX 5870 XXX edition got 7.8 on Windows graphics performance score. Win 7 Pro x64.
 
when i first switched from 285gtx to hd5870, i had the same problem. my graphics & gaming score dropped from 7.6 down to 6.0
i did some tweaking in CCC and now they're both up to 7.8
i've been messing with the settings again and i can't get seem to get it to drop back down to 6.0 :-/

i'm running win7 64-bit. latest ati drivers. uninstalled nvidia using normal windows remove program (didn't even bother with registry cleaner/driver cleaner/etc). sorry if this doesn't really help u but i would start with CCC
