I have had bad experiences with xfx xxx edition cards, and evga ftw cards. It seems they wont hold the factory oc. Try lowering the speeds to the vanilla settings and see if it works correctly. If it does, you know your problem is the factory oc.

I have not played with the card at all so how do i spin it back to "vanilla". i could not care less about OCing it. I just want it stable.

Yes to 725MHz on the core and 1000MHz on the memory. If this fixes your problems you will have to RMA the card to get one that you paid for (operates at advertised clocks).

I think the card is bad.. I threw in a nvidia 8600 and all my issues went away... Setting up RMA... Underclocking did not help.

pretty sure thats normal. Seen it on three different 4890's, curious as to why they're broken off like that.

RMA it and get another one, I have the same exact card and absolutely love it, BFBC2 looks AMAZING with it.

This is a good card. (I got the Black Edition because it was the only one in stock and the same price as standard).

I am a complete noob to overclocking and I am running my XFX 5850 Black Edition at 1175 memory and 930 core right now @ 1.15 volts with stock cooling reaching 70c at full load in BBC2 with the fan running at only 45%. I haven't even tried to go higher but I saw at least one review go to 1200 and 1000 with no problems. I am surprised at how easily this card overclocks.

There is no reason you should have to clock it down to reference for stability. The overclock on the Black Edition is extremely mild.

How about an update? Was it a hardware or driver issue. Hopefully you got a new one by now.

Funny you bring it up. I got my RMA back on friday. The card popped in and runs like a raped ape.. Faulty card.
