XFX 5850 - $255 @ NewEgg

Yeah, ATI has to drop these down to $210-$230 to be competitive...Gotta admit, if I only had one 5850, I'd sell it, get an nForce 980a board and 2 GTX460's...ATI really is charging too much for 5850's right now. Come on nVidia bring on the GTS450 (2 in SLI will likely surpass a 5830 in crossfire). I'm so happy after the calamity that was the GTX470 and GTX480, nVidia can pull out a 8800GT performance revolution again.....wow...the GTX460 really is kinda like the 8800GT of this generation...I wonder if a GF104 GTX475 will perform close to the GTX480 the same way the G92 8800gts performed close to the 8800 Ultra...one can hope :D

$250 is fine for a part that competes with GTX 470s. It's quite a bit faster than GTX 460's too, in single card applications.

Ati just needs to fix it's crossfire scaling.

I'd jump on this deal if it weren't for tax. Waiting for Amazon or someone else to have a similarly priced 5850.

Thats a great price for that card. Yes the GTX460 is great and all that but at the end of the day, the 5850 is still the faster card. If youre wanting a single card setup, this is definitely worth it at $255. If I had $255 to spare right now, Id buy this in a heartbeat. Much more though and the GTX470 becomes the better buy.

doesn't the 5850 overclock well and make the 460 look bad? and doesn't the 5850 still out perform it at the end of the day? i know 460 is great for the money but 5850s are nice and OC well

You...are...correct....I take it back then....(its thinking like that(that I displayed) that led me to have a mountain of spare computer parts).
A 5850 OC to it's max will embarrass a GTX460 AND GTX470 at their max overclocks...so I take it back...this is a great price for a 5850.....Though, I still think ATI should drop the price and put the pressure on nVidia....I wanna see the GTS450 come out for $130!

anandtech has a great new tool on their site that has a scatter plot with price vs performance and 5850 is placed extremely well before you OC it

how is the XFX version of this card? all this talk and now i am intrigued. my 9800gtx is showing its age

Not a hot deal by any means.

At this point in the game a hot deal on a HD5850 is $200 or less IMO.
