Xfire with 6970 & 7970 possible?

Why would you even want to. That's akin to pulling a horse drawn wagon with one horse and one Ferrari. The Ferrari won't be able to perform as designed.

Last time I've check this was the [H]ard|Forum, where we take hardware to the extreme just for the sake of it, not Tomshardware :p

Ferrari's weren't exactly designed for wagon pulling, and the 6970 is not as slow as you make it seem in your analogy.

It has been proven that the faster card will perform at the same level as the lesser card within the same architecture, for example a 6970 crossfired with a 6950. It will be worse and perhaps impossible with what you are proposing as they are not the same architecture. And yes, this is [H]ard Forums, not [H]airbrained Ideas Forums nor the [H]oly Crap, That's Stupid Forums.

And say that historically you can't make a crossfire setup with different series card like 6000 and 5000, so it's unlikely that AMD has changed that.
