Hi I would like to know what settings are best for a PCI-E titanium XFI user who is using only audio technica AD700 headphones for gaming, music, movies, and general web browsing.

Are the AD700's 5.1 headphones? Should I set the XFI speakers in 5.1 mode or 2.1 I'm really not sure what to do since I have no speakers besides headphones to game with.
Does XFI, EAX, and SvM function properly with these headphones under windows 7 64 bit?
 
All the EAX etc functions are handled by the sound card.

Your headphones are stereo.

For best quality for everything, I would say setup the Audio Creation mode for music listening, turn off EAX etc, enable bit-matched playback etc.

And then for gaming, switch to the Gaming profile. Set up that how you wish, EAX is actually really good IMO positionally, but can muffle sounds a little. Try it and see! But that will enable you to have the best of both worlds :)

For games, you set the X-fi with its control panel, into "CMSS 3D Headphone" mode. This is important.

Then, you go into the speaker settings for windows, and set THAT to 5.1 speakers.
This way, windows thinks you have 5.1 sound, and will thus let games use 5.1 settings, while the X-fi drivers are actually using HTRF to emulate positional surround sound with stereo headphones.

You obviously will turn that off when listening to music. Not sure if you need to set windows to 2 speakers or not, though.

For movies that use multi speaker surround, I'm not sure...

Of course, if you want plain jane stereo in games and don't care about positional surround, just keep everything on 2 speakers.
 
For gaming, my understanding is that you must FIRST set windows to 7.1 speakers and next enable CMSS in the X-Fi panel, and then select headphones in the X-Fi speaker tab. Apparently the order of operations is important. Lastly, once in game, select the highest possible in game setting (ex 5.1/7.1) to provide the maximum number of audio streams for CMSS to synthesize.

You probably want to enable EAX effects as well as SVM(softens loud sounds, and boosts soft sounds - better for gaming, not so good for music).

For music listening, you probably don't want CMSS, EAX, or SVM, so configure the Entertainment mode differently from your gaming mode, and use them as appropriate.
