Xerox has struck a deal with startup Powerset in an attempt to create a new search engine that will hopefully one day rival Google.

Powerset in San Francisco is developing a search engine based on natural language processing with the help of PARC, which has been working on technology in this area for 30 years, said Powerset founder and CEO Barney Pell. The search engine is expected to go live by the end of the year.

One thing I know about Xerox is that they are very smart and create very functional and effective things.

I think they could pull it off... but before you know, google would probably make a buyout offer.
