xeon x5690?

Many people seem to be of the opinion that the i5-2500K is a nice performance/value chip for gaming.

Why do you think you need a 6 core Xeon?
 
In a single processor system? Not really since the 990X is going to do the exact same thing for quite a bit cheaper. For gaming unless this is a old build I really would not recommend either the 990X or the X5690. Just go with SB and call it a day for gaming.
 
For gaming I would focus on the Intel® Core™ i5-2500K as very few game out right now can take advantage of more than 3 threads. Because of this the value of hyper-threading and the extra cores on the Intel Xeon® X5690 won't have much value in a gaming environment.
