I'm think about getting a new PC soonish but unsure if Xeon is the way??

Basicly would it be better for me to get 2x 3.6GHz xeon processors (7.2GHZ) or a single processor like the new pentium D. Would I notice the different. I currently use apps like 3D Studio Max aswell as a major PC Gamer so which would suit me best?

But if i do get a Xeon what motherboard is best??

I'm thinking of spending like £3000 as i'm also going to get 2 7800's (BFG or XFX not sure yet)

but what would you say is best to spend my money on??

Looking forward to this build :) lol

Obviously the 2 3.6Ghz Xeons , especially if you get the 2MB L2 Irwindales which I strongly recommend , will have far better performance than any Pentium D.

I recommend you either Supermicro

These 2 boards satisfy your requirements ( SLI )

Or Iwill :

A Pentium D is at best equivalent to a similar clocked Xeon. 2 3.6Ghz Xeon have no Pentium D equivalent since the fastest Pentium D is 3.2Ghz.

Secondly , with Xeon you have HT default while with the Pentium D only the EE has it.
