Hey guys. Quick question. Just got a EVGA 790i board and was wondering if a Xeon E3110 would:
A) Be faster than a Q6600 (G0 stepping) in games.
B) Actually work on the board.

1. Yea unless the game specifically supported quad which most dont.
2. With the latest BIOS most 965, p35s do. Im sure that would.

Okay, I'm a total tool. Ignore that previous comment. What I meant was the exact same comment with the Xeon X3350, not the 3110. This idiot requests a new answer to the same two questions.

To relieve the pressure on the OP, I would like to know whether or not an E3110 will work on a 790i Ultra board... I think that's the route I'm taking.

Sweet. Good to know the procs will work. Now... Is it faster? Is there any funky thing on a Xeon over a C2Q that would make it suck for gaming or is it basically just a badge switch?

You said it. Badge switch... I am using an E3110, and honestly all I really do is game, code, nothing crazy processor intensive. So unless a game has support for a Quad, the E3110 will be faster as its stock clock is also higher.

Clock for clock, the Wolfdale-based E3110 is 5% to 10% faster in media applications. Once again, games are still GPU bound at resolutions above 1280x720; most notably anything above 1680x1050.

Honestly, I would stick with your Quad for now. Save the money for something else or save it for Nehalem.
