Guess this means I'm going 55 series, any news on availability on newegg yet? I'm hoping the 55series price drop so I can talk the guy into selling me 5550's rather than 5530's lol

I am seriously thinking about selling my 2 x X5550s and getting 2 x X5650s.

It really depends on how much I can get for my two cpus if I can upgrade.

He doesn't need the hex-cores for that. Evil can mow everyone down right now except Tiger, and that includes you and me...!
 
yea, I was looking at 750 for a pair of 5550's, 1 5650 costs 996$ + tax

Altho if you feel like unloading your 5550's... damn, I'm broke....
 
Better get it ready soon, top 10 will be REAL crowded in a month or so I think, with all the new stuff coming down the line

it's gonna be interesting to say the least!

My other option is to find another X5550 (Revision CO/C1 or D0)

If I can find one of those for a good price, I would also be happy.
That would enable my Turbo Mode to work on that system and the old X5550 can got into the HTPC. Finding one of those seems to be the issue at this point.
 
So you only need one regular for turbo?

I have a system with one ES and one retail and i still have no turbo!

ES are pre-production processors. Sometimes they have features turned on of off.

In refrence to the Xeon 5500 Series:

B0 stepping - Turbo Mode with 3 or less cores active / No Turbo with 4 cores active
C0/C1 Stepping - Turbo mode works when all 4 cores are active
D0 Stepping - Turbo mode works when all 4 cores are active.

So for example, if you have a B0 & D0 in the same system, Turbo mode will work on one CPU and not the other.
 
Hmm, have no mobo to test these on, he'll, they are still in the mail, but if I google the writing on the top Ill find out stepping they are right?

5530's still have 18 multi as the base tho right?

also, wouldn't one CPU at one freq and another CPU at another freq, wouldn't that cause stability issues in bigadv or not because they are seperate sockets?

I just remember from the last dualy I actually had (P3 ithink) they were the same speed (dual 550 MHz! ha!!)
 
Should be D0, now how do I enable turbo? Will it just automaticly boost the multiplier by one when I start folding?
