I am building a server using this motherboard...

SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCL-F-O LGA 1155 Intel C202

I have noticed that some 1155 Xeon's part number ends in a "5" denoting that they include an onboard GPU. Since the Sandy B's have no real northbridge, are they still able to output to the simple VGA port on the server motherboard?

If there is no on die gpu then you have to have an offchip gpu or vpu of some kind. Most server motherboards usually have a ATI chip (about as low end as they come) for accelerating video to a DB15 port.

Afaict boards that have IPMI have a graphics controller integrated into the management chipset. 3D support is likely to be somewhere between minimal and nonexistant but it should be fine for text mode or a conventional (non 3D) GUI.

Server boards that don't have IPMI may well require the integrated graphics support in the CPU.

If in doubt download the manual and check out the block diagram. It should tell you how the graphics is hooked up.

The C206 is the chipset that supports the IGP (Intergraded Graphics on Processor) of the Intel® Core™ E3-12X5 processors. At this time the only boards that I know that are using this chipset are from Asus (on the P8B WS). All the other C200 chipset are using a on board graphics solution.
