Xeon CPU question

Okay I have this dual core xeon server. Right now it's folding, when I look into the process menu it is only using up 25% of the cpu. How do I change it to use more of the processor? I would like to utilize 100% of one of the cores( I guess that is 50% of the computer).....
 
Dual Xeon with Hyperthreading, I presume? you could run another instance of folding?

Based on it being Dual Core w/HT, a single thread will never use more than 25% although in reality it is using 100% of the available CPU time of a single core. I have a P4 HT at work that I run a single client on, but it never uses more than 50% of the available usage.
 
So, if you had one FAH process for each actual processor (2) you would be using most of your available CPU power. However, it would only be reported as 50% usage. Right now you are using most of the power of one of your processors. Currently there is no fah client which is able to see and utililize multiple processors with one /process/.

Exactly, HT screws up the reporting on CPU usage, which is also why running more than 1 client on an HT P4 yields such a small gain.
 
Personally I think it's kinda stupid on how HT/Dullies report stuff but ohh well.

I played with one,

1 instance = 25% across all
2 instance= 50% across all
3 instance= 75% across all
4 instances= 100% across all

Here's a riddle for you. In Windows, which graph represents the physical core 1 and the physical core 2? Is it windows 1/2 or windows 1/3?

Another way to ask the question is say you wanted to run two instances on the physical cores, do you use machine ID 1 and 2 or 1 and 3?

Machine IDs don't correspond to which core the threads get put on. So if you use MID 1 and 2, you might end up with those processes on virtual processors 1 and 4, or 2 and 3, or whatever.

As to which graphs are which CPUs, I'd strongly guess 1&2 are CPU 1 and 3&4 are CPU 2. I know Linux reports them in that order. But as to how you'd check, I dunno.
