I have a matched set of Xeon socket 603 processors. The specs on them are 2.0 GHz, 400 Mhz FBS, 256k cache. My question is will all 603 or 604 boards work with these chips? All the socket 603 boards I seem to find say they support Xeons with 512k cache. Does it make a difference that mine only have 256k? And what about 604 socket boards? Will they work? Thanks for your help.

They should be compatible with most if not all socket 400MHz FSB/ 533 MHz FSB Socket 603/604 boards ... they will most likely not be compatible with 800 MHz FSB socket 604 boards.

That makes sense. I was just worried because all the specs for the 603 motherboards I found would say they support Xeon with 512k cache, but no mention of 256k cache.

603 256k chips will work in anything.
603 512k chips only work in newer 603 boards, and 604 boards
604 chips only work in 604 boards.
