anyone using this in their environment? My company is looking to go this route and I had a few questions. We run all Citrix software, XenServer, XenApp etc. I'd guess it's similair to VMware's solution although I'm not sure.

I don't think at this point we would be utilizing Provisioning Server and VDI since we will be using this on a remote office that has give or take 20 employees. I'm wondering how the process actually works. Say a user has a laptop and is out of the office with no internet access, will they not have a desktop to work on? I know there could be an OS behind the scenes but we would be shooting for a single sign on solution so users would only have one desktop to work in rather than getting into a windows environment and then launching an application or client to connect them to their virtual desktop. Users would get confused as to which desktop they were working on and be saving things in different (wrong) desktops.

Is there a way to for lack of a better term to cache the virtual desktop on the laptop and have it basically sync back to the server copy of their desktop once internet or network access is regained?
 
XenDesktop will allow you do this.

If you stream the "desktop" to the laptop before you disconnect from you internal network then you can take that image anywhere and work it. Then when you reconnect to the network the laptop will normalize the changes to your desktop image on the server.

You would still need to have an OS or something to load the Citrix Reciever in order to stream the VDI.

You can also have the laptop users VPN into the network and then have them choose the desktop to use and it would take over the full screen. This would eliminate the confusion.
