i've been looking at psu's, and i can't decide between saving money and getting the xclio, or getting a 450W ocz modstream. the difference is ~$30, which i would want to be able to justify. is the modstream noticeably stabler etc than the xclio 450W? and also, is the modstream better than the sunbeam NUUO 550W? cuz its at the same price point. thanks :)

Between those 3, the Modstream. Although I hear the Sunbeam is quite nice since it just got added to the SLI certified list.

Or get fancy and go with one of the following:
SeaSonic S12-500W (damn good units) $124
OCZ PowerSTream 520W (really about 32A +/- a couple on the +12V) $94
FSP FS550-60PLN (also damn good units; dual 18A +12V rails) $81.37
Antec TPII-550 (dual 19A rails) $95

The FSP would probably be the logical choice if your looking to save some money.

sry, shoulda mentioned that. its gonna b along the lines of:

a64 3000+ venice
200gb ide seagate hd
im trying to find a good deal on some 1gb sticks of ram, if i can ill get a couple, otherwise 2x512mb ram (whatever's cheapest when i build)
ati's x1800 xt or whatever the highest one is
dvd burner (probably lite-on or samsung? once again, whatever's cheap :D)

this is a qpack build, so im waiting on the new mobo's currently in-route to be released.

would the fsp 550w recommended above be better than the modstream? cuz a $8 difference wont mean much to me. and i disregarded the powerstreams cuz they have green lights in em (ew), and i wouldnt trust myself to open it up and take em out. and also, are these recommended to be worth the $30 more than a xclio?

Yes the Fortron 550W EPS ( http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=PS-FS550PN ) is an excellent value. ;)

However as long as you are NOT getting a DFI N4, the $52 450W XCilo is fine.

im pretty set on this, but just wanted to check - the 450w modstream would be the best value at $64, right?

Depends. Wait until the XI800 comes out and see what it's exact power draw is. You may find you need a power supply with lots of amps on the +12V rail(s). Check some reviews to see what the continuous output is on the +12V rail of the ModStream. Which, iirc, OCZ is actually close to what they list on the unit label. So it might be fine. But to be BSTS, it's probably best to wait and see if you have to spend an extra $20-40 for a unit with more +12V amps than it.

Yes & it has +12V@26A, more than enough for any 1 video card or even 2 6600GT's. :D
