Xbox360/VGA cable & 2007WFP weirdness

Hey all,

System config: Xbox 360, Microsoft VGA cable, Dell 2007WFP revision A04 (S-IPS).

Here's the thing: I'm annoyed by all of the "widescreen" resolutions because they're 16:9, not 16:10. Using them with the Dell monitor in "fill" mode results in a very noticeable vertical stretching. For example, when I start up Crackdown the circle that's part of the studio logo doesn't look like a circle but rather an oval! It's SO obvious to my eyes.

OK, so I decided to try 1280x1024 with the aspect ratio toggle (menu item right below resolution) changed to widescreen. Same deal-io! Although due to the high pixel density, the clarity is quite nice, it's still a 16:9 image stretched to fill a 16:10 surface!

But wait! There is an option in the Dell monitor configuration called "aspect ratio" (same submenu as fill and 1:1). So I chose that, because it's supposed to be like Fill but preserve the aspect ratio.
So what happens? Now I can see what looks like interlacing artifacts in motion areas of the screen! Has anyone else noticed that? BTW the "1:1" option will not cut it for me, I don't want to be playing Xbox on a tiny 1280x720 window on my 1680x1050 panel.

I really would prefer to get "aspect ratio" working properly without interlacing artifacts or whatever the heck they are. It's so weird because "fill" does not have any interlacing.

thanks for any insights/solutions on this issue.

(BTW don't let my interlacing comments fool you - I am NOT trying to watch a movie, I'm referring to standard Xbox360 games on the Xbox360!)

if what im thinking is what youre describing, you can try turning down the sharpness to eliminate the lines.

the 2407wfp has a problem with the xbox 360 via vga on 1920x1080p. when selected, there are horizontal lines on the screen. the default sharpness setting on the monitor is 50, but when set to 30, the lines go away without any noticable loss in "sharpness" of the image.

sucky thing is, you have to do it again if you select a different input (on the 2407 anyways).

since i dont own a 2007, just a 2407, i have no idea if they have sharpness settings. but if they do, try it out. never hurts.
