Hey I just recently bought an xbox 360 and i was interested in how they have the feature to stream video/music from your computer but how exactly do I set that up.. or what does my PC need to do that?

First you need to connect your Xbox to a router either wired or wirelessly, and hook your computer to the router as well.

Second, you need to download and install Windows Media Connect 2.0 from Microsoft.

Third, turn the Xbox on, and start WMC on the PC. You'll be able to see the Xbox through WMC's window and can select which media folders you want to share.

Finally, on the 360 Dashboard go to the Media blade and choose Music, then choose computer. Assuming everything is set up correctly, you'll be able to connect to your PC and will see all your artists, albums, and playlists. The same steps apply for Video.

Do exactly as this man has stated, and you're in good shape.

I believe you have to have Windows MCE to stream video though, correct me if I'm wrong.

No, you don't need MCE to stream video.

The 360 can act as a Media Center Extender that lets you see the Media Center interface if you have a computer running Windows MCE. The added benefit over just using Windows Media Connect is that you can watch TV that you've recorded on your MCE computer's hard drive.

Is this new in the most recent patch? I know I haven't been able to stream from computer to TV with my 360 up until now, but I haven't tried it recently as you did need Windows MCE when the 360 was released.

Yeah, this would have to be newer or maybe using some kind of 3rd party software. By default it lets me get pictures and MP3's, but nothing else.

That's what I thought all this time....I've had a 360 for a long time and always wanted to stream video, but I don't have MCE. I have the beta of vista sitting around just for this reason.

lol...same :) I'm actually waiting on my Conroe parts right now and was really thinking about tacking on $95 for MCE just to do that...but then I thought better of it.
I *think* there's some homebrew software that'll let you stream video from Xp Pro, but I honestly haven't dabbled with it, though.

oh ok thanks will def follow steps..

but any specific router or any one you may recommend?

I'm using a Linksys WRT54G and my Xbox is connected wirelessly with the Microsoft USB wireless adapter. It works like a charm.
