hi all,
this isnt exactly a pc mod, but a xbox is made of pc parts so i decided to post it.
iv'e got the chance to buy a used xbox for cheap and thought heya go for it.
the plan of modding it came instandly to my mind (modchip, large harddrive, nice case finish).
but when i first hooked it up i was scared....woot that thing is LOUD.
so my first mod is to change the fan.

here we go

the noise level is reduced by 40% i'd say

if anyone knows a good mod chip let me know.
see you when the modding continues.

nice job, i just did taht with a red LED fan(to match my star wars theam) if your not sure of your painting skills you can alwas go with a skin, i went that route and em very happy with what i got as for mod chips, lemme know what you find out, im in the market my self :)

the X3 is a favorite of mine...I haven't used it, but some of my friends have it and I really like it. Here is a tutorial for the 1.6V of XBOX, and here is a tutorial for v1.0-v1.5. If you chose to get the 3CE, then you will need to read this tutorial. Here is the homepage for all of their stuff.

make sure your soldering skills are up to date. I modded my xbox and im not a very good solderer, i ended up having a friend do it for me coz the pics make the mobo look bigger than it is....those damn points are tiny! Good luck, well worth it and id go with the X3, mines awesome.

hi all, thanks for the suggestions.
I think i go with the x3 chip

as for the heatsinks, i compared the cpu sink with hs from faster or at least equal P3s and celerons and the xbox hs looks at least as good of not better than these. ;)

my thrusty temp and airflow meter (with this i mean my hand ;)) told me that the exhausted air is very hot after my mod. after a bit searching i found out that the xbox moboconnector doesn't supply 12v for max fan perfomance
so i came up with this:

i took the 12v from the hdd connector

cut's i have to made to the hdd tray:
