Big PC Gamer, but I have fallen in love with Halo 2. I have heard you can load Media Center 2005 on the XBox and use all the Media Center features (i.e. I can watch movies I have on my computer on my TV through the XBox).

First off where can I buy Media Center 2005? I heard that it will only be something preinstalled on Media Center computers. But I have used Google and found a few prices for just the software. So can I buy it or not?

Second, I have read on these forums that using a modded XBox on XBox live will get that XBox banned from the service? Is this completely true, and does it happen 100% of the time, and are there any mod chips that don't get detected?

Third, I also heard you can set up something like a Game Server for all your XBox games, by copying them to a hard drive on one of the computers on your network and using Media Center to browse through them. I would prefer that to buying another high capacity drive for my XBox. Although I might if I decide it to use it as a TiVo.

Finally, USB ports? I have seen some tutorials on adding USB ports, and I am sure if I have Media Center loaded on the XBox I will have no problem using a USB Keyboard/Mouse with this. Does anyone have experience with this? Can I play Halo 2 with Keyboard and Mouse (sorry but game controllers for FPS are crappy).

I've never modded any console but I hear that modding and XBox is pretty easy.

what he said ^^^^

I believe you are talking about Xbox Media Center (the open source one) that does require a modded xbox (and is very very cool).

So does the software actually get loaded on the XBox hard drive? So I don't have to load the DVD every time I want to use it as a Media Extender?

It also looks like I will have to have a computer with Media Center loaded on it. Anyone have ideas where I can get Media Center? I am building a computer for my mom that I could set up with Media Center, if I can fidn the software that is.

Also about serving games? Is it true I can copygames to say the hard drive on my mom's computer and load them on my xbox?

I haven't looked into this.
Do you need to run a Windows XP Media Center pc or can I link this up to a regular file server?
I'm guessing from it's description, I need to have a pc running Windows XP Media Center though.

Still, it looks very cool also considering it allows you to still get LIVE invites when using it.

Yes, you have to have a media center PC. You can get Media Center from newegg, or any other retailer.

It remotes your Media Center PC to your Xbox via RDP.

(Requires either 100Mb or better, or Wireless A/G)

You have to put the disk in the drive, I wish it could just be on the hard disk too.

You cannot remote your hard disk to your xbox for games.

xbox media center (open source). is SOOOO much better than the version microsoft made.

Thought sig was disabled for the forum, because I couldn't see them. I guess It was just my settings.

I was talking to someone at work and he mentioned loading Media Center 2005 on a computer, and I asked him if it was possible to set up a server to get games off of, and he said it was, but didn't mention EvoX. I just assumed it was just one of things you could do with Media Center.

i've got a friend with a chip and evox on his xbox. it's really cool. with that you can put games/movies/mp3's and what not all on the hard drive and his chip is turn offable so that he can play on live like normal. i don't know much about xbox media center, check forums or some tutorial/articles at www.xbox-scene.com for tons of stuff about xbox mods.
