xbox 360 ~= x850xt

meh...in enlgand theyve only just introduced hd tvs...and theyre on plasma screens...so if if wanted to play the new xbox in all its glory id have to spend atleast £3000...which is like $5500...but my parents are buying a 60inch hd plasma for around £5000 which is like $9250 or summit...so overall i think my computer was a better buy...with more capabilty :) for around £1400 i can play all the games at top spec :)

A few things :

I suspect that that 10MB of memory on the video is primarily a framebuffer. Granted, at 1080i ,which will take about 8MB/frame,, this doesn't allow for double-buffering.

I've heard stories about the CPUs in this thing being somewhat crippled from the maintstream PPC chips such as the G5 - from simply lacking cache to things as wild as lacking the entire out of order execution unit (OUCH!). When coupled with the video game industry's habit of twisting numbers when hyping system specs, I really doubt this "500MHz 48pipe" graphics processor is going to be comparable to what 500MHz and 48pipes would mean on a 'real' graphics card.

Unless Microsoft is selling this at an absurdly high price or losing an unholy amount of money per unit - there will be some serious corners getting cut to achieve the specs. We don't even know if the thing has real SMP or if it's going to have some weird architecture like the Saturn.

Only time will tell. Considering it's Microsoft (I dunno who's worse, MS or Sony) I won't believe a word out of their mouths' in terms of specs at E3. That being said, I expect Sony's Cell architecture to bring a bit more to the table than these 3 cores. And Nintendo... well who knows what they have up their sleeve. They said their system will be no slouch in terms of power, we just don't know what's under the hood. They're least likely to lie about their specs, which usually makes them look bad in the eyes of "casual" (read the stupid ignorant population that plays videogames nowadays) gamers. We should probably keep these XBox discussions out of the other forums and in the gaming forum, though...

Yeah, Im waiting on Nintendo, I love nintendo, I like X-Box, but PS2 does nothing for me, Gamecube better than PS2 in my mind, so I expect great things from the new one, although they could work on getting some better games out there. Stupid Sony contracts with gaming software companies ruins the competition. Really though, nintendo 64 started 3d gaming on console, and people forgot so fast, it makes me sad. They saw halo, and forgot about mariokart and bond. I will always enjoy a happy game of Stack: Remote Mines or a Wario Stadium race more than an angry game of Halo.

Sorry for the rant, but I think we need to get back to the roots of wonderful youthful console gaming. Lets hear some support for good ol nintendo.
