I just found out I won an Xbox 360 from a drawing at a convention I was at recently. w00t! :D
I haven't followed consoles at all because I never imagined buying one. Now that one fell into my lap I'm wondering: What are the top three "must have games" for the 360?

If you guys could give me some suggestions I'd appreciate it.

PS (Anyone wanna trade for a Wii? :p)

Crackdown
Dead Rising
Gears of War(mainly for the multiplayer)
Fight Night Round 3

Gears of War
GRAW (1+2)
Crackdown (includes Halo 3 Beta)
Guitar Hero II
Dead or Alive 4
Burnout Revenge
Project Gotham Racing 3
FIght Night Round 3

I don't have many games, but like the others have said:

Crackdown
Dead Rising
Gears of War
Oblivion
Rainbow Six: Vegas

Also, Live Arcade has quite a few great games, averaging in price from 5 to 10 dollars. Aegis Wing is free, which is pretty cool. Otherwise I highly recommend Geometry Wars.

[Edit: oops forgot about top 3]
1. Guitar Hero 2
2. One of the Shooters (Gears of War, GRAW2, Rainbow Six)
3. Crackdown

You can subsitute any of the following in case the 3 I picked don't suite your style.

Dead or Alive 4 (if you're a fan of the series, I am of course :D )
Fight Night Round 3
Forza 2 (Almost here... )
Kameo (colorful, fun, but short)
Lost Planet (if you like blowing up Aliens)
Project Gotham Racing 3 (get the MS wheel, you get the game for "free", and you'll be ready for Forza 2 :D )

Dead rising is seven shades of awesome. Best console game I've played in years.

since you asked for top 3:

gears of war
dead rising
crackdown (since the new DLC)

I'm going to be a little different and suggest a game that I haven't seen mentioned here yet.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance

I've seriously spent so many hours playing that game, beating it twice on different difficulty levels and now am working on the comic book missions (which you acquire throughout the game).

Secondly, I'm going to say

Guitar Hero II

Again, another game that I've spent at least 40-50 hours on playing through. Even if you aren't that good at it to begin with, the game is structured in such a way that you'll get better. I started out playing on Medium, and now am only a few songs from beating Expert.

Lastly, I'll go with one of the shooters available. They all appeal to different people in different ways, so it's really up to what you like most (i.e. realism, etc)

Gears of War/Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2/Rainbow Six: Vegas

be careful about overdoing the practicing on gh2... two of my left hand fingers were hurting for almost 2 weeks straight so i went to the doctor last week. gave me some anti-inflammatory samples and now i'm all better. but i'm going to give it another week just to be safe.

i'll never have another six hour session of that game.

Gears of War, GH2, I spent quite a bit of time on GH2. It makes my hand stiff like crazy after a couple of hours playing though. Gears is just a cool game, fun and pretty challenging... imo anyway.

Dead Rising is nice, but I've only played the demo. I heard Lost Planet was awesome but I tried the demo... and I think it sucks.. or atleast boring. I'd just get Halo 3, it'll be out in like 4 months. I also heard people speaking highly of Spiderman 3, of course I don't think so, cuz I heard its the same as Spiderman 2 and I hated that.

Dead Rising - flat out the best game for the x360 to date. Story, Replay Value, Creative, and the graphics are nice to look at.

Gears of War - been a gamer for a long time and this game brought me back to the days of Quake 1 multiplayer. Excellent Graphics, Multiplayer is great. Single player replay value is good because of the different difficulty levels and the ability to have a friend join at any point during the game.

Insert your favorite sports game here- Fun at parties. Fun online. You might get bored with it and 3 months later want to play it again.

----
Honorable mention.
Rainbox 6 Vegas, Dead or Alive 4, GRAW 1,2
& for interestesting physics Dead or Alive Extreme 2

PGR3 IMO the best racing game in terms of fun driving.

Saints Row A GTA clone that is very good.

NBA street something something. Different and fun basketball game.

Gears of War - been a gamer for a long time and this game brought me back to the days of Quake 1 multiplayer.

You know, I felt the same way when I first started getting into Gears online. I think it's the fact that the game has a run down gothic feel to it. Another reason is the one or two shot kills in Gears. In Quake 1, all it took was one grenade or one rocket to kill someone that just spawned and usually rocket battles against a fully armored opponent lasted 2-3 rockets. Similiarily, shotgun battles in Gears can last only 2-3 shots or they can be over in just one. Also, although the boomshot has almost no splash damage without an active, it can usually kill someone or at least down then with just one shot. The instant gratification factor in Gears is something I miss in shooter games these days. Anyway, back on topic:

1. Gears of War
2. Dead Rising
3. Oblivion

Here's my list

1. Dead Rising - probably the most fun I've had with a game in years
2. Guitar Hero II - I think it's really addicting, but I hate how it seems to becoming this "emo-icon" of a game at my high school
3.I actually really like Fear, despite how short it was.

3 is pretty replaceable I've had my elite for like 10 days and 1 and 2 are really all I play, though Fear was the first one I beat. I own gears of war and while it's really fun to play, I think that it's over-rated. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely fun, but I think a lot of people are caught up in how pretty it looks instead of the actual story/game-play of it.

I forgot. If you like sports games, NBA 2K7... though I think in a couple months we'll have NBA 2K8. Some people like NBA Live more, but in my opinion 2K is a much better game. Either way you can always download the demos (of both), and try them for yourself.

Dead Rising
Gears of War
Forza 2 looks like it is going to be very good when it comes out later this month.

Dead rising is seven shades of awesome. Best console game I've played in years.

I agree. My friend and I are addicted to this game. Its replay value is through the roof.

And it has the greatest list of achievements of any 360 game to date, though some of them are damned near impossible (has anyone actually gotten the "Frank the Pimp" achievement?).

Gears of War - Different kind of shooter, only played it for single player. Multiplayer is still all about Halo 2 here

Guitar Hero II - A lot of fun and even people who don't really play video games get addicted

Fight Night Round 3 - great party game.. who doesn't love beating the crap out of each other? ( especially when there are no after consequences)
