So I've looked into this before, and noticed there are no mice specifically made for the xbox 360. I have seen some converter things that work, but albeit not nearly as well as on the computer. People have told me that it's because mice aren't quite as standardized as Keyboards, which is why keyboards work fine with the 360. I've always kind of wondered why Microsoft doesn't just make a mouse and small keypad specifically for the 360. I am sure it wouldn't be that hard to add support to it for games. Something that would just have to add during development of the game to handle the mouse correctly. What do you guys think about this?

They like people to be on the same playing field. Personally adding the addition of a mouse and keyboard option would be nice. I think some people were able to get a mouse and keyboard to work but the sensitivity was such that it was pointless. The speed at which you turn with the mouse instead of the gamepad was the same speed so it was deemed not really worth. I could be wrong though.

1. The front end of consoles wasn't made with mouse in mind.
2. Gimmick hardware usually = terrible gimmick games (see wii board).
3. Developers would have to put extra work into getting it to work correctly.. and odds are that it wouldn't work as well as something that was developed to JUST use keyboard and mouse.
4. Developers want to distinguish cpu gaming and console gaming. The line isn't thin and neither side wants to cross it (except for a console/cpu port). Generally gamers who play on their computer don't want to game on consoles.. people who game on consoles do it because they don't like pc gaming. Blurring the line wouldn't be a good idea imo.

I think in some respects those people that dont want to game on a console is because they can not use a mouse and keyboard. The FPS market is huge and the biggest line that people dont want to cross is being forced to use a gamepad instead of m/kb.
I perform much better on a m/kb scenario but I am getting pretty good on the gamepad. Would still rather have m/kb for fps' though.

if I remember correctly, the KB/Mouse addon for the 360 didn't work all that well because of the autocentering feature on joysticks. I recall reading a review and the person was complaining that the "view" would always snap back to center, unlike a mouse setup on a PC

this may or may not be the case, but I do recall reading about it last year sometime.

I see what you are saying. But I have played games on the computer that were basically ported from the 360 and they work great with a 360 controller plugged in or with a mouse and keyboard. So it seems to me that developers are willing to put the time in, but for some reason they don't for the console. It's just disappointing, because I bet lots of people would flock to consoles if they could use a mouse and kb. Something like would definitiely kill PC gaming. I have gotten pretty good and using a joystick, but I still notice times where I am shooting, just to the right of someone. This didn't happen nearly as much as when I played on the computer using a mouse. I feel like I only do well in games is because everyone else is using the same crappy joystick.

Welcome to console gaming. I feel your pain. I only play racing sims/games on my 360, I simply cannot, will not, use the shitty stick for controlling an FPS.

I feel the same way, I wish they would just release a mouse/kb for consoles.. As far as level playing field.. it would be equal.. everyone has the choice to use one or the other.. I am sure there are alot of people that are better with a controller than mouse/kb anyway, especially the people who started on fps with a controller. I really do want to play fps on consoles but I just can't use a controller to do it, I have tried and I just can't get used to it.

Yea I started as a console gamer, and got seriously into PC gaming around the middle of the PS2/Xbox generation of consoles. So I started of playing medal of honor for the PSX, Halo, etc. But I fell in love with mouse and KB for FPS games. Especially playing games like counterstrike where people are super competitive. It was pretty obvious that the mouse/KB was a superior combo. In fact, it was the lack of a mouse and KB that took me so long to buy a 360, which was a few months ago. Console gaming is just a lot cheaper to maintain than PC Gaming, plus I can play with my friends online.

In short... I see this coming next gen. It will be a bullet point on E3 presentation screens.

  • Full Keyboard and Mouse support for all games.

It would have to be a standard set for the entire platform, and if anyone of the 3 can do it, Microsoft can. Setting a standard and making it work, that is.

The adapters for the keyboard and mouse are really flaky. I tried one back on the original XBox, although I'm sure they have improved light years since then, but the plain truth is that console games simply aren't coded with a keyboard and mouse in mind. That seems to be where the real problem is.

Here's the other funny thing.. the whole UT3 and PS3 KB/M support thing was super hyped, and how many people do you actually know who still play UT3 with a KB/M on PS3? It got completely washed over, and now games like MW2 are coming out for PS3 but IW STILL didn't code in KB/M support! They obviously didn't see it as a huge factor, and as another poster said when everyone uses the same controller it puts everyone on an even playing field, which I honestly enjoy. Personally, it makes FPS games more challenging and it requires you to be much more strategic instead of relying on twitch instincts to get your killstreaks.

That, and all of these adapters seem to try and emulate the joypad instead of actually giving proper mouse control, so I'm sure it will NEVER feel like a real PC experience.

Lastly, the adapters are around $80-$90 alone, and for that price I could buy a nice new gaming mouse and a game like MW2 for my PC and get far superior control.

Then, of course, you have the XIM 360, which is ridiculously expensive but is supposedly the best:

http://xim360.com/

If you are going to spend $150+, might as well just stick to PC gaming.. What's the point in trying so hard to emulate KB/M on a console when it costs so much? Might as well stick with the real thing... It would be like spending $150 to be able to use your XBox 360 or PS3 dual shock controller on your PC.

Because the biggest reason to switch to the console is to play with other friends that are on the console. I would have picked up mw2 on the PC if it wasnt for all my work buddies playing it on the 360.
They tried this once with Shadowrun to be able to play 360/pc all in the same game but MS went and screwed it up and dumbed down mouse control and made it pointless.

God I hope MS doesn't do that.... no offense, Microsofts done enough to screw over pc gamers, that'd be the action that draws people away from pc's a little more... just my 2 cents.

developers need to work on making cross platform play in games instead..

So you don't want consoles to get better because you want the PC to still be a viable gaming platform? That's pretty lame.

It'd be the smart thing to do I bought an xbox 360 and quit playing FPS on the PC because of the cheating atleast on xbox you get the people using the turbo remotes thats about it, they aren't seeing you through walls or auto aiming or anything of that matter I'm getting an xim360 eventually so I can just use my mouse and keyboard on the xbox considering alot of people do already I don't think it'll be an issue and hopefully xbox allows mouse and keyboard setup I believe sony did it with UT on the PS3 wouldn't bother me one bit I'd be more then glad to play my games on my xbox 360 untill PC game makers take away all the BS of modifying configs on PC games.. Last time I think I enjoyed a cheat free PC gaming enviroment was in Quake 1 in like 1996

I own an XIM 360 and I absolutely wreck peoples shit in Halo 3, CoD4, and now MW2.

Although still playable, some games don't work very well with it because the look mechanic in the game is terrible (i.e. all the games in the Battlefield series). MW2 along with CoD4 feels 95% like PC in my opinion.

Take Halo 3 for example, your BR cross-hair will never leave your opponent's face. Team SWAT is a joke.

I switched to 360 because it's what all my friends use, so the price was easily justified. Xbox is so much more fun now... I can't even begin to explain.

To be honest, I don't think consoles will directly support mice in games... the advantage is simply unfair.

my xim360 will be here tommorow :)

Lets see here you can buy an xbox 360 for 200 bucks and a 7200rpm 250gb hd for 65 and jam that in your xbox and a xim360 for 150 so you've got yourself a mouse and keyboard gaming rig for 415 dollars im not complaining i get bad fps at time i can tell but i know everybody else is running the same platform as me so they're getting it too.. I've just got a mouse and keyboard now so its going to be wrecking time even though I can't complain too much about the joystick 2 weeks of bitchin about it and just dealing with it actually helped me figure it out where it wasnt to bad to play.. The wife loves the rockband stuff too so its a win win for me.. I'm not dumping a grand on a nice pc she's whining about cause it doesn't do myspace any better..

I have a different name on the xim360 forums shrimpanzee but I've seen you on there... my name on there is puppyfranklin its my xboxlive account its one of those tricky names where people rage cause they think im 9 years old and im spanking on them lol

Well I am pretty impressed to hear that the xim360 works well. But for $150! That's quite the investment. Also, where can you get a 250gb hard drive for the 360 for 65 bucks?

I love how you complain about cheating on the PC and then talk about how you are going to get an xim360 so you can cheat on the console.... that just seems kind of ironic.... it is sad how many of you guys are cheating on consoles... using the xim360 is just as bad as using aimbots on PC...

a lot of people are talking about the controller as if it's a problem with the console, but in my opinion, the controller is the single biggest reason TO have a console.

KB/M is more accurate, yes. but it also forces you to sit at a desk. it forces you to sit up uncomfortably while you play your games.

to me, the biggest advantage a console offers isn't the ease of use it's the comfort. i can lay on my couch and play, or sit back and slouch, or when i had it in my room i could lay in bed, get however comfortable i wanted because i'm not tied to a keyboard and whatever surface it's sitting on.

i see people spending all this money to turn their console into a PC, why not just spend that money on the PC instead?

Probably because a lot more people have friends that play on XBOX Live than on PC.

Then learn to use a controller if you want to play with your friends... it really isn't that hard. Everybody else is using the same tool as you so the playing field is even.

I don't get this level playing field thing... Or people who say using a mouse is cheating. It's preference. I prefer to use a mouse in FPS games. I am way more accurate. Is this cheating? Hardly. Normally I use grenades and other things less if I am using a mouse. I know people who prefer controller over the mouse. It all depends. When I play online, sometimes I play leisurely and don't care if I die. Other times I want to do the best I can. And I do a lot better with a mouse. Why wouldn't you want more options for controlling a game? I'd never play Assassin's Creed with a mouse and keyboard. Hell, I even bought a Xbox 360 controller for my computer so I could play it with a controller. I knew I was eventually going to get a xbox 360 so the cost wasn't a big deal.

Lets say I am a football player who converts over to soccer because all my friends are playing it now. Well I suck at using my feet to kick the ball but I find my hands to be more accurate. So instead I pick up the soccer ball and run with it down the field and tackle the goalie out of the way to make a score... I guess my friends wouldn't think that was cheating?

Hands are not allowed in soccer just like mouse/keyboards are not designed in console games. Everybody is using the same tools the controller... by using the mouse/keyboard then you are not using the same tools as everybody and could gain a possible advantage which would be cheating..and for you to say otherwise would just be silly. PC are an open system so you have the options to use what ever devices suit your preference but console gaming is a closed system and everybody uses a controller. If you suck with a controller then practice and get better with it. I wonder if the same thought process that you are using is the same as people who use aimbots on PC.... they are way more accurate....

You can build yourself a xim1 for about $45. I originally got the xim360, but returned it because i didnt think it was worth the $200. My xim1 feels almost exactly the same as the xim360

Ok. Using a mouse is not synonymous to an aimbot or using your hands in soccer. That's ridiculous. Those things take 0 skill. A mouse takes skill to be good at. People in this thread even said that UT3 for the PS3 was designed to handle a mouse. If I can play MW2 with a mouse or controller on my computer, then why is it cheating on a console? Because there are no Xbox 360 mice sold in stores? That's dumb. I can use a racing wheel for race car games. I could use a flight stick for flying games. But I also have the option of the controller. And no, I don't suck at using a controller, since everyone seems to put that in all there responses. I just prefer a mouse. It's like using forged iron in golf. It gives you more control, but you have to know how to use it. I don't tell my friend he better leave those damn things at home because it gives him an unfair advantage. Because it doesn't. He learned to golf with those clubs so he could be better. I can see where you think the xim360 is cheating, but overall using a mouse on a console is not.

I just wanted to quote this in case anyone missed it....and you CAN compete with a mouse on the sticks if you're smooth and quick. Baby Baby!!!!!
