I just bought a (broken, rrod) 360 for about $60 (with power cables) and the reason I did that is so I can mod it. I have a 360 but it was manufactured 11/01/08 so it's still an infant and it's not worth voiding the warranty on a perfectly working xbox.

I'm looking for mods to do on my broken 360. First of all i'm probably going to do this:

That will hopefully fix the RRoD.

After that I want to do some mods. Performance wise I was thinking of doing a mod that would enable the user to download games and then play them through the Xbox. What would the best way to do something like that be?

What kind of games are you thinking? there's not really much or anything in the way of homebrew for the 360 like there was for the old xbox.

Let us know if you have success with that, OP. If so I may have to pick up a RRoD 360 myself and give it a try.

Do NOT follow that youtube video... you will get a RROD very soon afterwords. Not only does he do an awfully sloppy job with this mod (that arctic silver job makes me shudder), but he's attaching the heatsinks back to the board again.. this is part of the problem that the 360 has in the first place. A PC motherboard is attached to the case to keep it straight. This keeps the board from flexing and gives it good contact pressure to the chip.

Go to llama's 360 page and check out the kit he has there. You can find all the parts at Home Depot. I've done almost 30 Xbox 360 RROD's and that is the best way from my experience.

12mm flat head screws with 32 metal washers and 16 vinyl washers seems to be the key. But you need to take a drill and drill out those holes, then mount everything to the metal chassis of the 360 case.

Everyone has their methods, but this has worked great for me.

why cant you just send it in to MS to get the rrod fixed before you break warrenty? Then you'll be able to do whatever mods you want after you get it back.

i think he means his warranty is valid on his working xbox. he bought a broken one to mod it. i'd imagine that if someone was selling an rrod'd xbox it's already past warranty
