Xbox 360 - Horizontal or Vertical?

How does everyone have his / her Xbox 360 setup? Personally, when I first got it I set it up horizontally. After about 15 minutes I turned it off and moved it to the vertical position (it looks better in my home theater setup this way). The other day I thought I'd move it back to the horizontal position because I thought it would be easier on the DVD drive from a disc reading perspective.

Well, today I was playing PGR3 and I got 2 disc read errors in about 10 minutes of starting up the game. Note, the disc is spotless, not a scratch or anything else on it. I noticed that the disc was quite warm to the touch.

So now I've moved it back to the vertical position. I figure in this way there's more surface area to disspate the heat when compared to the horizontal position. I did the same for the power supply.

How does everyone else have their Xbox 360?

Horizontal, more stability. You gotta be careful with the 360 in the vertical position. According to Microsoft when you put the 360 in the vertical position it turns into a baby killing machine! (No seriously, there is a warning that when the 360 is vertical it could fall and seriously harm babies and small children....read the manual honest)

Horizontal for lyfe, suckas!! WOOT WOOOOOOT!

I noticed that when I first got mine and actually laughed out loud. The PS3 is probably going to have a warning for midgets and women :D

That's why mine is vertical. I like to...live life dangerously while looking good doin it!

I have a launch version too... I use to have it vertical, then I moved and got new furniture and now its horizontal... works both ways for me, I actually perfer it horizontal now.

Horizontal. I do that anyway, disk scratching by moving the thing makes it stay that way. Much harder to give it a good knock when it's horiztontal. i really dont see how the new fangled on it's side thing is good for anyone not wedging it into a small sideways space. Though the noise idea makes me think twice.

Noise isn't really a problem unless you put the sound on mute. I always hear people complaining about the Xbox 360 being loud, but honestly, it's not any louder than a PC. If you have a surround system or put the volume up at any decent level it should mute out whatever little noise is coming from the Xbox 360. BTW, I have very sensitive/excellent hearing, so it's not like I'm deaf and can't hear a thing or anything. ;)

Horizontal. I use the top of it for putting stuff on so I don't lose much space. Vertical seems a bit to precarious to me. Also mine is a launch version and it has worked fine ever since I moved the power supply to a place where it got better cooling (out of a corner and into an under-table wire manager that leaves it exposed to air on all sides.

Seriously guys.. I used horizontal for months.. but recently swapped to vertical and the system is atleast 1/2 as loud now. We did the same to my friends, same result.

Give it a shot.

Apparently not very sensitive then...because my 360 is much much louder then my computer, then again I would say my computer is abnormally quiet. Still, the 360 is loud there are no 2 ways about it. The problem isn't the fans though, what makes the most noise in the system is unfortunately the disc drive. Some systems have quieter drives than others, but of the 4 or 5 drives used in the system I think only one of them is decently quiet.

I'll agree that the DVD drive produces a lot of sound. I can typically only hear it when first launching a game though. After I'm in the game, my surround system kicks in and then it drowns out everything else. I think I just blast my surround system too loud. :D

Horizontal for me. My new 360's drive won't eject most of the time if it's in the virtical position. Doesn't really bother me though.

I use mine horizontal cause its more stable that way, plus whatever mechanism that tells it which way it is messed up in mine, cause my ROL never switches over, unless theres somewhere in the dashboard where you have to change it.

i think i have one of the loud ones...it's loud....I only notice though when hooked up to my computer monitor with crappy speakers...hooked up to my home theatre system you can't hear it at all.
