Ok im going to try and explain this the best way that I can so I hope I dont loose anyone. I was cleaning my 360 today taking it apart blah blah. I Figured while I was cleaning it I would replace the fans. I got New fans from Xoxide.com so I put them In. I noticed that my 360 is a bit cooler now but still out of the rear is still hot air.

I have a case cooling question for you guys. My 360 is a Falcon 9-9-2009 system. Ok now here is my question. Do you see where I made the Black Arrow? Where there is a Piece of Thin Metal connected to the case itself. Do you thnink If I removed this it would allow more Hot air to Escape from the 360? to me it seems that once you put the system back together all the Metal basicly traps all the heat inside the system.

If you put the case together with that piece of Metal still on it you notice its a Tight Seal where I believe it traps heat but when you dont put it together with that piece on there is a really good amount of space for heat to escape. Im just wondering is this piece of Metal Viable to the 360 is it needed.

This image is not mine found it online so I used it as a Reference.

Update: I ended up trying it on my own & it actually runs alot cooler. It is a tad bit louder but feeling the rear of the console and the top you can easily feel a difference. you can feel cool air coming out of the top of the console. going to run it for a day & see. I wish I had a temp gauge

I was wondering what do you guys recommend for thermal compound for my 360. looking for something that doesnt need to cure & dont worry about the cost. will pay top dollar if it works. Will also be used on my ps3

If the air coming out of the back is hot, that means the HS and fans are doing its job. As fans and HS's don't "cool" the unit rather than remove the heat and displace it into the air. Also, the way that metal shielding is placed would have no effect on the airflow through the HS's and is best to leave it alone. How hot the air feels and how hot the case feels does not tell how hot the chip is, so before you go modding and hacking things up, get a temp probe and see what things are running at before and after.

The best mod I have done to an xbox with cooling in mind is making a better "shroud" from the fan so it covers all the HS and making it as air tight as is practical. Doing this with a temp probe on the under side of the HS showed a large drop in temps. Though I will admit this was done at the same time I did the bolt mod and replaced the TIM with Arctic Silver.

do you have the Mod link for the Shroud that you used? The fans are direct replacements same voltage

I made everything myself for the few xbox I did it for, it was rather straight forward, but I have seen people also using cardboard and tape to improve the factory shroud, wile it might be a bit ghetto, it would have the same effect, all you are doing is extending the shroud to cover the tops of the CPU and GPU HS's so the air has to travel through the length of the HS's. As you are dealing with a limited amount of air flow, you want to make the best use of what you do have as you can.

I ended up doing both mods. extending the shroud over the heatsinks & the one shown in the video. will see how it works.

The metal on top of the case is there as an emf shield. Its not necessary in most cases.
