XBMC - What build?

If I wanted to put together an inexpensive PC for media playback what route would you go? I want to run XBMC on Windows 7 on a 1080p screen with flawless playback.

I was thinking along these lines:
I3-530
ECS H55-I
Antec 300-150

Can I get away with out having to go with a discrete graphics card? Thanks for all your input.
 
I just meant be able to playback back HD video in a variety of formats, I thought the i3 supported bit streaming regardless. I'm just connecting this straight to the TV no sound system.

I see many people saying a GT 220 or GT 430 is necessary with media PCs and integrated isn't enough. However I also read that in the latest Dharma builds of XBMC everything works perfectly with the IGP in the i3.
 
Yes the i3 is enough for XBMC even without DXVA or anything it can play anything by it's raw CPU power.

Now for XBMC... depending on the skin you might want to have a discrete GPU to have a better experience
 
Thanks for the input, will a half height GT 430 fit in one of these cases?


I saw the ISK thread and some good power supply replacements but I hope that a GT 220 or 430 can fit without problem.
 
Half height single slot will fit.

Also the ISK300 PSU is not efficient but it gets the job done, it just wastes some juice at doing it but should be marginal.
 
Honestly, I would just replace it with a Pico 150 instead that way you can have more room in the case.
 
Okay then, don't use such a crappy video card. The pico has been able to handle i3's under load no problem with a 5550 video card (at the most). The only thing holding back from using one is the video card and honestly, it's not that great for an HTPC. The only thing it has going for it is support for 3D movies.
 
The GT 430 is touted on every forum as the best htpc graphics card to get what makes you say different? I also don't want to limit myself with the pico 150 even though it is continuous power supply and not peak. With two laptop drives, blu ray optical, dedicated GPU I want the comfort of knowing I'm not pushing the limit of the pico. Plus if this is going to be a htpc why would I want another huge brick that I have to deal with when fortron should be able to fit internally?
 
a Pico 150 on top of the ISK-300 150 PSU adds a lot to the price. Also won't help with space since the thing limiting heatsink choices is height and it's mostly due to the HDD/ODD bracket.

The ISK300-150 does the job, it's pretty quiet as far as I know. The only gripe is efficiency which means some of the power it uses it's wasted. If you can live with that it's enough for you.

I think a Shuriken Rev.B will work
