I want to be able to watch Live HD TV from Comcast including such channels as HBO on multiple XBMC machines.

My current setup is:
-Basement server running Ubuntu 12.04 serving all media
-3 XBMC Linux end units connected to TV's

My questions are:
-What additional hardware do I need and what OS's do these work on?
-Are there limitations in what I can watch and what I can record?
---What are the limiting factors?
-Has anyone gotten this working with Comcast?

I would like to:
-Only use Linux if possible
-Store all recording on the basement server

Sorry for all the questions but this information is kinda scattered.

Not sure if Comcast is anything like Brighthouse, but you might wanna check what channels they flag as copy once before you go any further. Brighthouse flags everything as copy once, so you can't use xbmc, only windows media center. If you have to use WMC then you won't have a unified guide or shared recordings unless you use extenders, like Xbox 360, or ceton echo.

Only way you can watch live tv on XBMC if its copy freely. Anything Copy Once won't be able to watch it.

Best option is probably WMC and 360/echo as extenders.

I use two HDHomerun Primes with Xbox 360s as extenders.
