Xbit Article on ATi vs Nvidia Power Consumption

damn very close
GT @ 420/1150 = 64.35 watts
Ultra @ 400/1100 = 72.09

higher speed and lower wattage, love to see how it performs compared to the ultra, if equal or higher, makes me happier im getting a GT,

lol that is kinda odd well not really since the ultras need more volts.

There is no way to accuratly see how much power is going through the agp slot, which makes almost all power tests useless. In theory you could pull the readings from the card directly if you knew power layout. Hell the ultra in one test shows less than 75w consumption and I have never seen anyone able to run a it (or a gt for that matter) on a pci-e bus (rated at 75w) without connecting external power. The only time I've read where no external power connecter was needed on a high end card was on the beyond3d review of the x800xt pcie and that asus mobo he had. IIRC.

my question is, how much effort and success is there getting a GT to those speeds?
