I just received the skull series case, and I've spent some time checking things out so I have no issues when I decide to install my mobo. One question though, and it's probably a dumb one, but what is the switch in the back? It's connected via a green/white wire and is labeled "int sw." I've never really noticed this on any other case that I've dealt with and the manuel made no mention of it. Thanks for any help.

On the back of the power supply? Thats like a power cut off switch. So you dont need to unplug to stop power getting to the motherboard.

Negative. It's actually on the back of the case. In order to even push it you have to remove the side panel, because it's right where the panel wraps around.

This is the only reasonable picture I could find. It's the green/white wire located beside the fan casing.

Actually, is there a power button located on the front of the case? I ask because the power button in my xaser classic is labeled "Int Sw' for Initialization Switch. Its strange that its on the back... but you just never know....

What you have there is the switch for your "case intrusion alarm". It's a feature that's included in many motherboards. Some paranoid IT guys hook it up so your MoBo can call 911 (IT support, actually) if the case gets opened and someone tries to get at the nice Mushkin Level 2 DDR or your smokin' hot new P4EE.....:D

In all seriousness, it's used for "asset protection" and in secure environments where someone may try to steal a hard drive to get at some data. It's perfectly OK not to hook it up.

I went to thermaltakes site and didnt find anything for case intrusion, only the fan speed control. Although thats what youd assume, since i saw nothing i figured fan speed. There should be another switch then for fan speed.

expensive cases are out of my league since i never see them, but thanks for clearing that up science.

I've got the same wire in my enermax, decided to pull it out as it was a real pain as it kept going off whenever I pulled the panel off to mess around with stuff. There are two small screws holding it to the chassis.

Intrusion detection is easily defeated, once you have the case open. Power the machine off, open the case, reset the CMOS, system is yours.

Security starts with physical security. If I want in and I can touch your box you are screwed, period.

hey now, We have them in out machines at work... but were not paranoid (im in IT) They just came with the dell workstations we have here... right now there setup to ring and alarm when the case is open...even if it is powered off and unpluged.

I could care less wheather its on or not though..

Wierd, I just re-checked my pwr button plug and it does say Int Sw... but... Im using as a power button just fine? .... hmmm

It would look slick if you did some sort of dark tint border around that LCD, that way you can hide the circuit board..

btw... gj looks clean.

i thought about taht but i kinda like how i can look at the pcb...

the pcb glows from the uv light and it really looks well

err...I'm confused doesn't it go off when the case is opened? You can defeat the system to stop people from opening the case is open if the case is open? Thats like saying I can unlock a door from the inside...
