Anyone pushing the memory speed envelope with X99? For shits and giggles I swapped my 32GB 2133 kit to a 64GB 3333Mhz kit for my Rampage V Extreme and 5960X.

First try spat the dummy, tried increasing the strap to 125 with limited success, it would boot in to Windows at 4.3Ghz at 3333Mhz memory speed but it wasn't quite stable. I was starting to think it couldn't get there but I messed about with the VCCIO, and after setting it manually to 1.05V it is now running at 100 strap, 3200mhz memory, 4.2Ghz. (my chip can go to 4.3Ghz, but temps are pretty bad, even with a triple rad).

Primed it last night and it's all good. (y)

Memory bandwidth is 63GB/s :D

It feels faster but its probably just placebo.

Yeah, 3200MHz with a 100MHz Bclk is the sweet spot! I'm certain there is a reason why 3200 has a 100 Bclk and 2800, 3000, and higher than 3200 requires 125 - but I've not a clue as to what it might be.

Got my 2800MHz kit running at 3200.

And to the placebo effect - if you are running CPU bound games like Fallout 4 and Guild Wars (just for example), you will notice a fairly nice improvement over 2133MHz RAM.

It's placebo at the most. Even those tests that have shown that higher clocked memory makes a difference still shows a small improvement even for games. 5-10 frames per second for a much higher speed premium is not worth it. If anything upgrading to more memory assuming your application demands it will be more noticeable than speed.

"Worth" is all in the eye of the beholder.

It does seem to make a MUCH more significant impact with dual channel Intel setups than it does on AMD.

I don't think this is necessarily true. The Rampage supports higher speeds at 100 strap but 3333 only shows up at 125, at 100 it goes from 3200 to 3400 (all the way to 4000). The Maximus VIII Gene on the other hand can run at 3333 with 100 strap.

Ahh, must be manufacturer specific then. My knowledge comes from EVGA's X99 boards.
