Im using the new 87.25 driver nothing overclocked.
I used to have an x800xt then went to a 7800gtx then to a x1900xt which is currently for sale on ebay. Now as i cant keep the pace AND FED UP with high end gaming wanting a PS3 i decided to go for a 7600gt by sparkle which cost me £150 including the zalman cooler (cooler is here tomorrow), i wasnt expecting to play games anymore but wanted a card for vistas 3d interface.
I thought id have a laugh and try some gaming to see how bad it was. So i fired up Half life 2 and thought id be safe at 1280x720 with 2xaa and 8xaf........it ran like butter!! So i upped and upped and ended up at 1920x1200 max settings with 4xaa and 8xf........butter!!
......then i tried Sin Emergence....which equaled HL2 in performance so thats another at 1920x1200 max settings with 4xaa and 8xaf, yes i know its the same engine!
next up was serious sam 2 which was silky smooth at 1600x1024 with no aa and 8xaf max settings!
Next was Oblivion 1600x900 8xaf and pretty high settings, hdr far tree distance and far grass distance, no self shadows or gass shadows etc, ran quite smoothly, (i was very happy seeing as i was used to an x1900xt!)
Next was COD2: Max settings 2xaa and 8xaf at 1600x900,...ran beautifully
Next was Tomb raider Legends: now with max settings, no aa 8xaf and next gen on this game ran quite stuttery on the massive waterfall section where you do your first swan dive, a bit dissapointed but i guess ill have to tweak a bit more!
Quake 4: Butter at 1600x1200 with 2 x aa and 8xaf high detail.
Riddick: Butter at max settings all settings on 1920x1200 with 4 xaa and 8xaf, ran like butter!!
I AM TOTALLY GOBSMACKED BY THIS CARD, im glad im saving pennies by quitting the high end race!!
I have posted on other websites and people seem to prefer the x850xtpe but with old tech etc on the x850xtpe and size in my eyes full directx9 support at good framerates is best, im not up to speed on x850xtpe performance, what do you guys think is better?
ill do a couple of hl2 benches in a tick and post them
