I'm shopping around for some new computer bits here and I've found this: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814102483 X850XT for $200 and it looks like a pretty good deal to me. My only qualms are that I've been less-than-impressed with ATi as of late and I am wondering what the nVidia equlivent of this X850XT would be. I'm not terribly qued-in to the video card scene lately so I am not really sure whats "good". I'd like if possible to keep the price around $200 since the entire price for my new rig will be under $700.

yeh but the x850xt is faster...depends on ur price bracket tho
Not to mention the 6800GS is AGP, if I were going to go that route there would be no point to upgrading my mainboard.

I bought the same sapphire x850xt but retail which comes with two games and a coupon for the third, very basic bundle.

I'm actually disappointed as a whole with the card, even when overclocked to 600/600 it's still slower in some games than my 6800U @ 430/1.2Ghz, which is very confusing, it just doesn't add up.

Also, ATI's drivers are absolute garbage now, they used to be alright, but they actually are worse now! They're bloated, slow to load, and tedious to use.

6800gs is PCI-e too

im quite impressed with how well my X850 XT is struggling to keep up. gameplay is 60fps in every new game but switch off only a few shadows and some AA or AF and the game runs pretty nice and sure the quality drops but what do you expect with a card that is a year old. It isnt surprising that an NVIDIA card would run better in some games than other b/c some games just have a tendency to run better with NVIDIA. Look at Half Life 2...any ATI will beat its Nvidia counterpart most of the time in HL2.

Another vote for the 6800GS, and I am an ATI fan.

6800 GS CO

or even faster by default

Now if you tend on staying the course and only using 1 card for the life of the setup, then the X850XT should be your choice. The X850XT runs much hotter than the 6800GS, but it is faster by default. Though the X850XT can do The 6800GS overclocks very well though, so the end result may be much closer.

what drivers?? my x850xt pe is waay faster than my friends 6800ultra

Im gonna vote ATI, i have an X850 pro unlocked and I pull in over 7000 in 3DMark05, what does the 6800GS pull?

Yeah, I think the XFX 7800 GT was like 260 something with a rebate the other day on Newegg..... definatley a huge leap in performance over either of those cards.
