So I had an x800xl agp and now my new build will have an x850xt. From what i've read, they say that the x850xt can possibly be a downgrade b/c of the pixel pipelines. It's supposed to be a higher clock but less pipelines.....

but....

I read the specs on my x850xt from newegg.. and it says it has 16 pipelines... so... does that mean it'll be a good upgrade from the x800xl?

the x800xl is ATI-built and x850xt is the sapphire taht went on sale recently w/ rebate from newegg.

The X850XT is WAY better. I don't know what you heard about the pipelines, though, as they X850XT is 16 pipelines and I thought the X800XL was 12 (could be mistaken on that, however).

You're thinking the x850 pro. It only has 12 pipelines. The XT has 16. The x850xt is a NICE step up from the x800xl. The core stock clock is 30% higher..

I don't think that's true...

They both have the same amount of RAM, pixel and vertex shaders. The x800 xl was built using a different manufacturing process, and wasn't known for being much of an overclocker.

The x800xl has 16 pipes as does the x850xt. The speeds are much higher on the core and ram for the 850xt. Also the cores are different. The x800xl has the R430 while the x850xt has the R480. In the end the x800xl can usually top out at around 435-440Mhz whilst those R480's can sometimes crack 600Mhz on the cores
