Ok, its alittle late now, but I just ordered a Sapphire X850XT Retail card for Newegg earlier today, but I was alittle confused as to why the OEM card was $499 while the retail card was going for $459... I made sure I was getting the PCI Express card and not the AGP one... But does anyone know what it was $40 cheaper then the OEM...
 
Ok i dont know the answer to your question, but please tell me you didnt buy that x850pe for that rig in your sig?..........

don't hate on it too much, that card is definately gonna be bottlenecked by his CPU, but still, it'll be a good performance increase for him on newer games and he'll already have a great card if he upgrades his other stuff..... to the original poster, I would consider upgrading that rig to a gig of RAM and maybe an athlon XP 3200+ (according to MSI's site, you can run a 400fsb processor)...... probably be as good as an A64 3000+ rig or so, at least on 32-bit stuff........ on the price issue, I guess Newegg just got a good deal on the retail packages or something..... or it was on sale.....

Sure, you could just be right. Of course, all he has to do now is figure out how to fit his PCI-E card in a slot of some description......:D
 
uhhhhh :confused: ..... holy crap, I didn't notice the part where he explicitly said he got the PCI-E card, so I guess he's obviously building a new PC, or hasn't updated his sig in awhile....

EDIT: or he's gonna try to wedge it into the AGP slot with a sledgehammer.... :D No offense meant to the original poster :)
 
heh... Come on... I'm not a total noob....

My rig in my sig is my old comp... I typically do a overhaul every couple years and I typically get the best that is in my price range... typically spending roughly $1200...

Anyways, just for your info... My new rig:

Ahtlon 64 3500+ (Venice Core)
1 Gig Corsair DDR400
Asus Nforce4 Ultra Mobo (I don't intend on running 2 vid cards, hence the no crossfire/SLI mobo)...

480watt Antec Power supply
Dell 2005FPW LCD Monitor <--- okay that was out of my budget but oh well :D
 
cool.... i'm looking into doing something similar, but with a 4000+ sandiego chip, hope to get a nForce3 board though, since I still need to use my AGP card for now.... at least the old AGP boards are somewhat cheap.....
 
You could be in luck. DFI with their NF3250gb with a 939 socket is the one to look at, from what ive been hearing. should be out by the end of the month.
 
Coolie D why not just get a 3700+ San Diego and OC to 4000+? Save some money. 4000 isn't worth the price.
 
thanx for the suggestions guys..... Farkle, I was kinda thinking that way about the CPU...... just wasn't sure yet but you are right, the 4000+ is quite a bit more....
