Alright, do I was trying to raise my score in 3dmark05 with my X850XT PE (rest of rig in sig). Stock I got 7235. The highest stable OC I was able to achieve (keep in mind I didn't try very hard) was 570 core 600 mem. That got me up to 7612. I use ATI Tool 0.24 to overclock. I have my fan speed at 100% (stock cooler, never remounted), and heat has yet to be an issue. My main issue is, in an attempt to raise my score, I pushed the core up to 590 and left the mem stock at 590. At a point during the first test in 3dmark05 it stalled and VPU recovery took me out of it. I've been told before I should turn off VPU recovery when OCing, what is the reason for this? What do you guys suggest I do for a better OC? I use the 5.13 drivers with the control panel.

if VPU recover is kicking in then you are throwing errors and for stability purposes you do not have an optimal overclock on your video card. However, if your CPU is overclocked too high that could also be imposing a limit on the overclockability of your video card b/c if the CPU is throwing errors, from my experience I could not overclock my X850 XT as high. My overclock is only able to send my card to PE speeds and beyond that the video card just cant do much more.

I ahve the same problems as the OP.
I ran ATI Tool to see what it though was my top OC and it came back with 621 / 590 before it crashed.

I currently have the card running at 580 / 590 and it's been stable.

this thread makes me cry... my x850xt used to do 620/620 perfectly, probbly could go higher, I never tried, but then when I destroyed the bios on my motherboard, I brought it into a shop to get the bios chip reflashed, anyways when they were doing it, they broke the x850xt(one of the techs in the shop brushed it while on the table, and triped then on the fresh;y fallen x850xt and crushed it, it was painfull to watch) :( :( :( (to there credit even thou I didn't buy the x850xt at that shop, they did give me a new one for free) I cry to this day as my current x850xt can only do 540/600 stable, (560/610 benchable) I hate that, hate it hate it hate it, I had a good core :(, its all the luck of the draw, best thing you could try is re-seating the heatsink or getting an artic cooler, other than that thou your sol

Chilly

weird my x800xt aiw does 600/600 at stock volts, on water mind you.

Any word on volt-modding the cards?

I'm getting an x850 Pro and have a Maze4 waterblock, so I'm wondering how high I can push the core.

is an Opteron 148 faster than a A64 4000+? i was only able to achieve 6700 something in 3dmark05 with my processor and all of my stuff is similar to what you have contaminant, just a different brand.

i do 7101...around 6.8k on stock...

max oc ive ever hit is 605/630 but that was for a benchmark...real gaming ive tried it max at around 590/615

I slowly pushed my X850XT-PE up and up from stock last night.
Very slowly running a heat up and Artifact check each 20 Mhz.
My final OC that ran stable on Artifact check for 130 mins is:

610 / 600

stock cooler running @ 100%
Highest Temps:
76c chip
52c sensor

As soon as I got the Core near 620... Crashed.
Now I know this bitch can go higher but I dare not push it any further on stock voltage and without Water Cooling.

Depends I guess. Was that score at stock speeds for your card? Well, as it turns out the max my card is stable in Bf2 is 570/600. A little dissappointing but since this card is going on my new CF rig this month and this rig is getting an X1800XT (or X1900XTX  ) I'm happy with what I can do.

yeah, it was on stock. i got a stable OC of 590/590 and scored 6932 in 3DMark 05. i did the "find the max OC" also and got crazy artifacts at 620/605. i left my memory clocks the same and raised the core to match it at 590. it boosted my scores from 6700 stock to 6932. not bad, but i want higher. i wish i would have gotten one of those cores that can hit 630/620 or whatever and run stable. mine just punks out on me. cooling isn't an issue due to my zalman and under full load i don't go above 50c so i'm pretty sure its the core. no way around that is there?
