I just ordered a x850xt for 250bucks AR....but i keep having second thoughts about it being outdated soon being that its an AGP card....i just shelled out like 100 bucks for 1 gig of PC3200 ram and like a 450W sunbeam PS ( only 20 bucks tho.....too cheap to be good ?) ....and i was thinking that, all i need is a new CPU and a mobo to get a good system going....but wondering if the AGP gfix card will be holding me back if i were to do that..... anyone got any opinions ? :D

also....anyone know about the brand sunbeam? 450W PS for 19.99 on the egg kinda too cheap to be true ?

thx !!

If your buying a new CPU and Mobo it probably isnt worth it to base it around an AGP card.

I think now the problem with AGP is present, whereas 6-7 months ago it wasn't (when everyone went PCI-E). The X850XTPE/6800 Ultra are the best AGP cards so for you there is very little upgrade room (X850XT to PE). I don't know if any card manufacturers have said they will keep AGP alive but if they do, its only for so long.

So you have to look at it like this. When you are ready to upgrade again do you want to have to buy a new Mobo and Video Card (and mayube CPU) or just a new Video Card (and maybe CPU).

AGP (if they don't bring out the new series) is a very short dead end road, it still fun (I have it) but I can't upgrade my card without upgrading half my system.

you could always get the Asrock Dual SATA2 and a new CPU. That board supporst full AGP 8X and PCI express. Its only $70 and it actually overclocks pretty well. Im running my opteron at 290x10 on this board. This way you could keep your X850 and move to PCI express for your next video upgrade.

DONT BUY CHEAP POWER SUPPLIES! Your cpu, ram, and video card are fine, but I would never use that PS. Cheap PS usually don't last that long, lead to harddriver errors, unstable issues, no overclocking headroom, and in worse cases break system components.

Your question is a bit wierd, the 850XT is still a great card, but to forgo PCIe durring a big PC upgrade would be a stupid solution, AGP might be kept alive for awhile longer but no vid card realeased in AGP in the next year or so will be much if any better then a 850XT PE. Their are AGP/PCIe solutions like mention the ASRock Dual is a very Popular one, but keep in mind you are taking a performance hit and posible current and future compatibilty issues when purchasing a non mainstream chipset like the ULi.

Also never spend $20 on a powersupply no matter how good the deal works, that cheap usally means something is really wrong with it. Either low effieciency (your 420W acts more like a 280W and sucks power from the wall like its a 420W) cheap and prone to failure parts,

It is not a problem that your card is AGP, the problem is that x850 does not support shader model 3.0, in upcoming titles you will suffer from limited iq or severe lagg. That is why it is time for me to upgrade :)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817709009 for 19.99.....its not something i should use ? doah....its just that i couldnt tell any diff from the specs, hehehe......

I'm just buying the RAM and PS, and Gfix card so i get a few yr...maybe 1-2 yrs out of my P4 2.4 Ghz...since i think gaming at 1024x768 with all details/AA on would be more gfix card limited and not cpu limited......and the next time i do an upgrade, it 'll be a new system...

so the powersupply linked above isnt good ? Doah..

True, however you will not be able to play new games maxed out and get decent FPS. COD2 will not get yo good FPS in DX9 mode with 4xaa, BF2 still will, new titles such as King Kong i think wil lbe very demanding :( .

AGP is not going anywhere, ATI and NVIDIA do not have plans to release their newer designs on AGP. honestly you have the "fastest" card out of AGP in that computer.
