i have had this card for a little while now and have never seen it get this hot. when i display the cube thingy in ati tool after about 6 minutes my temps get up to 95c. only when i boost the fan up to 50 % through tray tools does it come down to around 79c. im assuming it gets this hot during heavy gaming as well. do i have to live with the jet engine stock cooler at 50 % or can i leave at automatic where it never goes over 10 % (cant set this).

no overclocks.

on a side note... why cant i overclock this thing. anything past a 5 mhz overclock makes games like css and halo 1 crash. when i lower it it doesnt.

I used to have one of these and after I put on a Zalman VF-900Cu it was a pretty damn good card, for its day, and a hell of a lot quieter.

ATI Tool creates a lot of heat when running and usually real world games won't get your GPU nearly as hot.

There's not much head room for overclocking on this model. ATI maxed it out right from the factory which is why an after market fan is a great idea. If you upgrade someday to a X1950XTX you'll be able to take the fan with you and put it on that. Great investment for some peace and quiet and cooler temps as well.
