At least, I'm assuming it is...

After upgrading my PC such that I can actually use the X850 to its potential, when I'm playing Farcry it works great for about an hour, then I get a DTD or some REALLY funky texture effects (tree leaves attached to bullets, etc).

I don't know what the temps of the chip are because ATI tool doesn't seem to have a log function, unless I just didn't see it. At any rate, would there be something other than heat causing the problems? I just ordered a Zalman VF700 VGA HSF, but am wondering if there's anything else I can do. SYstem in sig. Oh, and I am using the latest (as of about 2 weeks ago) drivers.

Heat of the card plus the potential heat in your pc case. The problems you described are a bit unconventional in terms of artifacting though. You're still at default speeds?

Still at default.

Kinda weird, I agree. Have played again since this note for over two hours at a time, twice. Also just purchased halflife2 and that plays great as well, for almost 3 hours.

*shrug* The zalman will get here and I hope that will solve it. If not, I'll start doing the driver shuffle.

Any ideas of what ATI drivers to absolutely AVOID?

Even at stock speeds my card ran hella hot so I had to take off the side of my rig to open up the airflow. I had the same artifacting problems after gaming for an hour or two. Now I just leave it OC'd and run it with the side off :/

Yeah I get artifacting in farcry at speeds I can play most other games at just fine. Its not FEAR mind you but definitely a stresser after an hour or so. Since you're still at defaults you might need additional case cooling or like Soldur try taking the side panel off. The Zalman will absolutely help though
