X800XTPE OC problems

I just got a water cooling setup in the rig in my sig and my GPU temps are about 26-44 I/L. I'd tryed OCing when I was on air and I got about 570 core as a max stable OC when my temps were more like 35-59. When ever I OC past 560 my monitor goes idle for a second then 3DMark03 looses focus and quits because the VPU revovers from a failure and brings up an error. Disabling recover only makes me have to resart the computer instead of wait for the monitor to start responding again. I was using CAT4.9 then and I've tryed evey driver from 4.8 to 5.2 and I get all the same problems. I used to have similar problems after a disabled 1 too many services but it seemed to work fine after i enabled them again. Has anyone else had similar problems? I'd think with these temps I could get more like 610 core, isn't that more like what it should be?

you may have reached the cores max. even if you had sub-zero temps, some cores are only capable of so much.

I hit 570MHz on the stock cooler with my X800XT-PE...it was a really nice card though.....I never even tried water cooling with stock voltage.....but going from 1.4v to 1.55v or so on the stock cooler didnt hit my temps to hard, and it took me to 610Mhz or so i think.....i honestly can't remember.....all I can remember is what I ended up at.

What about the AGP voltage options in the BIOS, can't you just make them higher? Why is a mod needed?

Haha, not quite bro.....the AGP voltage has nothing to do with your video card's core votlage......you're going to have to do a physical voltmod to the card to raise the votlage. This will either involved drawing a "line" on the edge of a certain resistor (lower the resistance between the two sides and raising voltage) or soldering a variable resistor to the card to adjust it more easily. The "pencil mod" is a little safer/easier to apply.....but its ridiculously difficult to adjust the voltage afterwards. Soldering the mod onto your card makes it very easy to increase/decrease the votlage afterwards....but soldering onto the small resistor can easily lead to a dead card unless you're good at soldering.

This is where overclocking gets fun, and the boys are seperated from the [H]ard.

I was wary doing my first voltmod to a video card or motherboard.....but after awhile you just get hooked. The thing to remember is.....if you can't afford to replace the dead card, DO NOT TRY TO MOD IT......as (unless you have no sense of right and wrong) you should never attempt to RMA a card that you killed trying to mod.
