A friend has a 420watt powersupply.

He has...

-Athlon 3200+
-1 gb RAM
-1 180gb HD

Then the important part:
X800XT

I always heard people complaining about Nvidea's 480watt powersupply rule. I was wondering if ATI had a reccomended amount, or if a 420watt is enough.

I know ATi's arent as power-hungry.

I believe ATi only requires a 300w PSU, but someone should verify this.

I have a 350 watt ghetto one for P4's, running my cpu at 1.87 volts, 2 hard drives, 2 dvd drives, 3 fans, like 28 leds, and it runs without a hitch.

A 6800U and X800XT both draw less power than a 5950...the 6800U draws less than 10W more than an X800XT. Any PSU from a good company 350W and up should be fine.

It really depends on the quality of the PSU, but in general a 420W should be more than sufficient.

I'm running ATI X800 XT PE in my 425W HEC PSU. I got 3 HDD, 2 optical drive, & X800 XT. It is running smoothly without any problem.
