X800xt or 6800gt?

Ok here's the deal, I've had this 9200se 128 mb card for a while now and I can't take it anymore, I finally got enough money for a decent video card, and I've been reading a lot on the subject because like everyone I don't wanna waste my money. I like both ati and nvidia so that's not a problem, but I was planning on buying an x800xt since the price (canadian currency) lately dropped. But I see people saying the 6800 is better and I don't think the price is much higher. Here's the website I've used to compare the video cards:

On that website it seems like the x800xt completly owns the 6800ultra, but I don't know how it works and I'd like some feedback.

Around 400 but if the card costs more I can wait, and I heard the prices would drop even more eventually.
 
well x800XT definetely faster than the 6800gt... and teh x800xt does not "own" the 6800Ultra.... and isn't tech report the one site that benchmarked the BF2 with top ati cards and a regular 6800NU ? lol... but anyways.. x800xt if it is the same price as the 6800gt..
 
It goes like this.
If the X800XT is the same price or lower than the GT get the XT. (ok and if its like 5 bucks more I would go with it too but at 10 bucks its the 6800GT).
If the 6800U is the same price as the XT or lower get the 6800U. And if you can find a X850XT for the same price as either of those two cards get it (its just a X800XTPE).
Thats what I would do.
 
I agree that you need a X800XT AIW. I got mine a week ago and couldn't be happier. Actually I could if ATI had any clue how to write the Catalyst and MMC software, but the hardware is awesome. I get about 50 FPS steady in BF2 with a very slight overclock (like 16 MHz core and memory). Be aware though that there is a delay issue with the AIW where the input video, be it TV or an input from a console is delayed about 1.5 seconds but there is a easy workaround for it. Tomshardware.com did a review on this card in which they explain the workaround.

EDIT: 50 FPS might seem slow for this card, but that's at full detail and 6XAA with the rig in my sig. IMHO, that's great.

XT AIW, not only do you get a faster card at stock but you get VIVO and all the litle extras.

i might be the only retard in this thread, but I'm gonna say 6800GT. My reason being that newer titles are gonna implement HDR and Softshadows to much larger extent. Such features would put much more stress on a non 3.0shader part. Your performance is less likely to eat it with a 6xxx series part.

yes but HDR will bring the 6800gt to its knees at a nice resolution and high graphics.

Ive heard that the XT AIW have amazing OCing capability

That's just not an issue, I can't eloquate it for some reason but I wouldn't worry about it.

Depends on the system, my Athlon 64 3800+ was able to run OpenEX HDR in Farcry at 1280x1024 decently overclocked to Ultra speeds. I usually got over 30FPS. On rare occasions it would drop into the mid 20's. Not optimal, but decent enough. That's better performance than I got with Farcry at 1024x768 with my 9600Pro@XT speeds.
 
Ok I think I'm gonna get the x800xt before september, last thing I'd like to know is if my 350w power suply will be fine? BtwThx a lot for all the answers.

Here's my specs:

p4 3ghz
1024 ddr ram
80gig HD
 
Would 30a make sense? I couldn't find it on everest so I opened up my case and there's like 3 different "a" 28,30,15.. excuse the newbiness :confused:. Is there another way I can find it?

Don't count on it.

I don't think the 7800GTX's price will fall much below $600 until ATi has something to compete. Even then, both R520 and the 7800GTX should sit at $500-600 for a while.

If the rumors (32 pipes) about R520 are true, then it could be even more expensive.

Ehh, I can kind of see why they are choosing to do that, unless you've got the Clawhammer-core S754 processor overclocked, your gonna run into a wall with your CPU. Whereas with a PCI-E 939 system, you can get a nice San Diego processor and overclock the shit out of it to keep the CPU limitation out of it, or just splurge on an FX 55/57.

And lets face it, for the people that have $550 to spend on a 7800GTX, a $330 San Diego 3700 or an $800 San Diego FX-55 is not out of the question. Some people just have too much money for their own good. But hey, if it makes them happy, and they've got the money to do it, more power to them.

But I just shake my head at some of these review sites out there. They pair a 7800GTX with a freaking 3200 @ stock. You just want to grab these people and pound their heads against the wall for being that stupid.
