ok lets say you get a x800xt, it really doesnt matter what make or brand right now since they all use the same reference cooler from ati. Ive noticed on the back of the card (other side than the reference cooler) you can see 4 of the memory chips. Would there be any point to puting ram sinks on these 4 chips to help heat disapation and would it lead to a higher/better overclock? i hope this isnt a dumb question but i hope i get a good answer.

from what i've heard gddr3 runs really cool so i doubt there would be any point in adding ramsinks.

I know it has been said they run "cool" but mine dont. I put bga ramsinks on and only get a marginal increase. I thinl the ram are pretty much maxed to begin with.

Ai, i don't think it runs cool at all, i couldn't put my finger on it for more than half a second, it fills alot cooler with the ramsinks i put on

hmm so ramsinks are keeping them cooler which in turn should make sure nothing is getting stressed too much. when you say marginal increase can you give me a mhz rating? im really interested in the overclock you achieved with the x800xt. Im still waiting for mine to come off of back order 8( until then i love to hear stuff like this 8)

well that doesnt help me out or answer my question in the least bit 8( if air cooling and useing ram sinks im wondering what the over clock difference would be before the ram sinks vs after.

example...

550 memory before 1.1 effective.

562 memory after 1.34 efective.

Before 590 after 610. I hope that helps you.

it does it gives me a reason to purchase them, if it was like 4 mhz diff id have been screw it but for 10 bucks its worth it in my opinion thank you.

I think Im gonna run 500Mhz core, 500(x2)Mhz mem...and be HAPPY!!!

No need to push temps at already obscene speed.

agree, the x800pro is probably the better overclocker out in my opinion, i have mine up to 560/610 on stock cooling, i cant wait to put my watercooler and some ram sinks on it, i predict on OC of 590/630. Someday i will also try to activate the other 4 pipelines, if I can do that and achieve that OC, ill have the best video card out...muwahahaha
