x800xt in june

What is this? First the X800 PRO would be 500 and XT 600 now PRO will be 475 and XT 500 according to rumours?

Its from FUaD. Grab normal boulder of salt, and treat the story as an amusing rumor. Certaintly nothing to get worked up about.

Why can't he at least post some inconsistant incorrect ramblings that I WANT to hear? Like "X800pro will be $75 US! And it comes with DNF!"

The comedy never ends.

First - It was said that ATI would have their next gen card out
before Nvidia implying that they were ahead of the curve.

Second - Nvidia beats ATI to market on the next gen card.

Third - ATI delays roll out of their next gen 'middle grade card'.

Fourth - ATI delays roll out of their next gen 'high end card'.

Fifth - ATI fans are downplaying PS 3.0 because there is no game
support. --> http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=15442

:p

I don't understand what the big deal is. it looks like the NV40 may be clocked at 475 and the 800XT clocked at 500, with both memory speeds the same. My guess is these cards will be very close in speed with Nvidia having some extra features that really won't be used at the moment anyway.

I really think both companies are just struggling to present their GPU's as different but in actuality they are pretty close in performance. I'm sure both cards will be exciting to have in the next few months. For myself, I am just waiting to see if 12 pipelines vs 16 pipelines is really that much different. I may actually not get the high end card for a change this time.

Well, The first and 2nd points are not proven yet. I see no NV40's on the market do you? If rumors that cards will ship on Apr 26 when the NDA is up, then you will be incorrect. Also where have there been confirmations of ATI delaying any of their cards?

The NV40 aren´t on the market yet and ATI is said to wait and release their X800 the same date as the PR launch.

ATI has had working silicon for quite a long time now apparently.

ATI have since long said they won´t support PS 3 because of the performance hit. Maybe just because they want to keep their 24-bit precision instead of going 32/16 like nVidia.

It´s not like oh damn we won´t have PS 3.0 ready in time so we go with PS 2.0. They went with the PS 2.0 because they found that the performance increase was larger than the drawbacks apparently.

Me I think the X800 will be 475 and the X800XT 550 at least.

Sounds reasonable. I think people were dreaming about the 600MHz number. Pigs can't fly.

Maybe ATI's PS 3.0 sucks, doesn't mean NVIDIA's does. ATI's knowledge of hardware isn't the gospel.

The way I understood it ATI will have most of the components of VS3.0 and PS3.0 just not the dynamic branching part. Correct me if I am wrong.

Well ATI has had the superior shaders since the 8500 so they sure should know how it all works.

ATIs knowledge of hardware is as close to gospel you can get ;)

If the X800 PRO beats the 6800 ULTRA as rumoured we should have the answer.

More comedy;

ATI founded in 1985
Nvidia founded in 1993

Both companies didn't really offer anything remarkable product-wise for gamers, rather 3DFX owned everyone.

Then in 1998 Nvidia offers TNT and competes with 3DFX,
then comes TNT2 and it beats 3DFX.

How many crowns does each company have (excluding 3DFX).

Being conservative;
Nvidia crowns -- TNT2, GF1, GF2, GF3, GF4
ATI crowns - Radeon 9k series.

score;

Nvidia 5
ATI 1

Considering that ATI almost had a 10 year head start over
Nvidia, does one expect more crowns in the high performance
segment of the market from this company?

:p :eek: :)

NVIDIA started the whole multi pipeline thing for consumer cards too. TNT meant TwiN Texel. That was their moniker for it. They also had the 1st OpenGL ICD for a consumer card ( Riva 128 ). It was lousy and had weird image quality in Quake 2, but it was a start. NVIDIA has had a lot of 1sts and it's funny to see ATidiots overlook all them and basically say NVIDIA is worthless. They made a mistake with NV3x. They are still a *very* talented company and I'd say have the best engineers on Earth in their field. ATI still hasn't figured out OpenGL.

Hehe, I consider most of the GF line one or two product lines at most, definitely not 4.

Just like the Radeon 8500 to 9100, no difference other than the naming really.

If you wanted to say that, then you could say the first gen 9700 was good, along with the refresh part 9800. Before the GF1, there was the Rage IIC which was great for 2D. Its still used in a lot of servers today, its the only mil-spec (military specification) rated chip out there.

Okay that doesnt make any sense the GF1,GF2,GF3, and GF4 are all part of the same series just like the Radeon 9k series so:
Nvidia:2
ATI:1 (Soon to be 2 with the R420)

About ATI not figuring out OpenGL, they found no need to do very well in OpenGL because very few games really use OpenGL it just like ATI not supporting all of PS 3.0 becuase not all the games in the next 5-6 months will use it; and by that time the next, next generation chips will be out.

No games? Ok. I guess iD doesn't license the Quake 3 engine to anyone, nor will the Doom 3 engine succeed. Call of Duty was a best seller for months. Quake 3 engine, OpenGL.

Don't forget HomeWorld2... I would dump ATi in a second if they didn't support that. :)

im out of the loop, will their be a 9600 equivalent? if so, do we have a general idea for a price?

Ewww...a tasteless mixture of cheeze and ATidiot in 1 statement. Nice accomplishment and supreme fanboyism revealed. 'no need for opengl' has to be one of the goofiest things I've ever read on this forum.

ha, yeah... and what about all of us coders who don't like to support microsoft's products? i know personally that opengl is also waaaayyyy easier to code in... great way to learn the workings of graphics for beginners

Very few games use OpenGL? This guy isn't even worth arguing with.
