Why the hell doesn't Nvidia make a high end All-in-One card?

They always put the personal cinema on crappy cards like the MX line or currently the 5700.

I'm thinking the next time I build a new system (probably 1+ years from now) its going to have to something like an ATI X800XT AIW

But by then it might be an X950XT AIW or Nvidia 7950 Ultra Personal Cinema? (I'll go PCI express of course by then)

cause Nvidia specializes in graphics and nothing but... end of story..if you want a damn TV tuner..get a TV tuner card

Cause there is no reason to jack up the price of a high end graphics card just to put a half-baked tuner on it.
Get a real PCI tuner card.

lmao yeah...!
will there be PCI express TV tuner cards with HDTV?..and maybe a antenna that can get some channels...

when i bought my 9600xt i was thinking "hey i could save some money by getting a all-in-wonder card instead of buying a video card and tv tuner separately (also it would be one less component to worry about)" but was that a bad idea. the tv tuner/radio/tv guide interface arent that great and compatibility with windows xp media center edition is like non existant because the all-in-wonder doesnt have 100% hardware decoding/encoding or what not (there are hacked drivers that will make it work but its not worth the hassle). also im thinking about upgrading the video card but i would lose the all-in-wonder features unless i buy a tv tuner or another all-in-wonder card. so in the end the the all-in-wonder series isnt too bad if youre a casual user but i wish i had gotten a hauppauge tv tuner card.

I have yet to hear anything on PCIe tuner cards other then that ATI's Theater 550 Pro chipset supports both PCI and PCIe as well as being able to be intergrated into an IGP... BUT it doesn't do HD of any kind.

Might not even happen if MS can work out the bugs with MCE2k6's support of Cable Card (although this means Sat companies are out in the cold unless they adopt CC).

BTW the word on the Theater 550Pro cards is that the quality from it needs to be heavily tweak to even make it compare with a PVR150 but even then the image is too soft, this is a driver issue. Hopefully ATI can up out some drivers the expose sharpen adjustments in the registry or it's going to end up with nothing more then AIW-like quailty. I hope not cause based on the specs it can be one kickass card and there isn't an good PCIe tuners out there.

ha, you'd be suprised. i just bought an X800XT AIW and it was actually CHEAPER than most of the other X800XT non-AIW cards at newegg. its not like those cards had amazing software bundles or anything either, so the AIW route was actually a deal for me, any TV tuner, etc features are a plus

though i'd agree, especially if i had a PCI-E rig that getting an x800XL and then a dedicated PVR card, maybe even a PCI-E card later would be the better route as drivers are surely going to be better (its a dedicated driver) and quality is probably better anyway

currently what is the best TV tuner card...in quality and performance

And a graphics card should have nothing to do with TV in or out? Its a graphics card for heavens sake. I would at least think if you have the space to put two VGA outputs, you can slap on a TV/HDTV out without too much problem.

HDTV is not all that different from a SVGA monitor, it just happens to be widescreen and has some interlaced modes. That Nvidia has weak support for HDTV is going to hurt IMO.

There is still tons of entertainment on TV. Thousands of channels of 24/7 satellite/cable/etc... But then again just like sound, there are people who don't use their computers to listen to MP3's either, and others who's *life* revolves around MP3's.

To make a generalization that a videocard should not have TV in/out just because you don't use it is not a good reason though.

The reason Microsoft Media edition does not have all the functionality is because its Microsoft pushing their weight around again. Its also that many people *gasp* actually find ATi's Tv-tuner software to be better (Its only been around for a decade y'know, lol) and I think ATi wasn't overly worried about duplicating efforts in the buggy MCE.

Anyone remember the first incarnation XP Service pack 2, where it mysteriously disabled all support for Nero and crippled EZ-CD creator... And then magically very basic burning software was included in Windows explorer? Nero has only been around since the beginning. And I don't think anyone would say Windows explorer burner is better than Nero.

*quivers* SP2 ...god..until they hang me ill never put it on...

Well, I can honestly say I have it running on 7 machines without a hitch. I don't even debate it anymore. Its one of my first installs after a format, especially now that I have a couple of CD copies.

well the windows operating system is just crap in the first place...you cant go a night without Explorer crashing/ a program goes nuts/ games get weird....i have a feeling mac will port there operating system to windows..seeing how they got so much money for the iPods on windows ( love mine!!!!) there sales are soring..and if they ever made a operating system for PC that really kept the same performance..( case macs suck for games)...

I just have a question for you guys taking a crap all over the AIW tuners... are the nicer standalone tuners really THAT much better? I'm not being a wise-ass, I seriously want to know. In my experience, Cable TV is much more of a bottleneck than any tuner or card (OK really cheap stuff like TV Wonder VE and WinTV Go are not that great).

I guess I just don't see the point of buying even a moderately expensive standalone tuner when you can get it built into your video card for less (heck the AIW X800XT is the SAME price as most regular X800XTs)

So... yeah. If you guys say standalones are much better for HDTV, Digital Cable w/ component output or some stuff like that then that's fine, I'll believe you, but what about regular ol' coax cable from the wall? I have yet to see any PC-based TV system that makes TV look 100% as good as "regular" TV by the time you get the signal and put it back out to a television set.

Oh and be gentle with me, I only dabble in PC-TV (read: n00b) :p

You can take your foot out of your mouth now.
I have several daily used machines that have been running for months now without problems. Last time I checked, Steam going bananas wasn't Microsoft's fault.
I like to consider most problems I hear about 1.D10.T errors.

Now how about we keep this on topic.

well the thread asked why Nvidia dosnt make cards with tv crap..and i blaintently answered it with the damndest truth...

if you believe that the AIW are great quality thats hreat...the other cards have bundles software and a little more stable and alot less hard on your system cause they are a deticated TV tuner..and some have awesome fetures...and as of now i hav not seen a HDTV card....if there was they would probly be PCI-E and be very expensive and computer taxing..and instead of be taxing on both your videocard and onboard TV tuner as with AIW...you arent double stressing your card...

and from what i seen these TV tuner cards are really great when it comes to the standard Coax from the wall/ anntena ( most have their own antena)

.and instead of be taxing on both your videocard and onboard TV tuner as with AIW...you arent double stressing your card..

Is this true though. I mean do you honestly know anyone who watches tv and plays games at the same time. It appears to me that what you are saying is if I watch a dvd on my radeon 9800pro and play a game the same time sure im going to notice frame drop, but as long as im not running both is it really stressing the AIW?

no dude..i mean..the video card is receiveing data from the coax..and processing it..and displaying video.all on one card...i didnt say anywhere that playing a game and watching TV at the same time..though with dual monitors im sure people do it all the time...but i ment on a single monitor with e coax in the computer..

Okay I see what you mean now. So if your coax isn't in there really isnt any added stress?

if you arnt watching video really no..
the cards are the same a 9700pro and a 9700AIW...same results..but back in the day they were a significant price difforence between them
