I don't know if this topic goes in this section, but I just got a ati X800 XL and I was excited to play BF2 on high settings. But when I try it out, I got an average of 17fps.. So I set it to medium settings with no shadows and no AA, and I got an average of 25fps..

I tried HL2 and it ran flawlessly with all settings on high.

You can see why this is odd.

I know EA hates radeons, but this kinda sucks.

Btw, I was using the new catalyst drivers from ATI.

Help!

1 gig of ram limits you to medium textures, low everything else @ 1024x768 with maps 32 or larger.

2 gig is needed for smooth play with any settings above those listed.

This assumes you have the CPU power to bring that x800 to life. This new article by Brent should help you make that determination.

dual core cpus don't play well with 1.21 either

EA for the win as always

GO GO QUAKE WARS!!!

You may want to consider driver cleaner to remove all of your video card drivers, current and any remnants of the old drivers, as well as your mobo drivers, and try installing them both fresh.

I play BF2 at 1280x960, 2x AA, 4x AF, medium textures, and 98% draw distance. I do lower the high-end shadow and lighting effects, but still pull down 50-60 fps under heavy load, and up as high as 80's when things aren't too bad. I also have no problems with 64 player servers.

These are my sytem specs.

AMD A64 (S754) 3200+ @ 2.56GHz, 256 x 10
H2o Cooling (DTek radiator, Eheim 1250, DD TDX block)
MSI K8N Neo Plat. w/1GB PC3500 (2.5-3-3-10, 1t)
BBA Radeon X800XT AIW @ 540MHz core, 1060MHz RAM
Hercules Fortissimo III
200GB/80GB Seagate SATA (7200RPM)
Pioneer 16X DVD/Lite-On 16x/8x DL DVD-RW

This is my system currently:

2500+ Barton OCed to 3100+
1 Gig OCZ Ram
80 Gig WD (BF2 is installed here)
250 Gig Hitachi SATA
ATI Radeon X800 XL

I'm currently running BF2 with

NO dynamic lighting
NO dynamic shadows
NO AA
LOW Texture Filtering
LOW Effects
the rest on MEDIUM

and I'm barely pulling 55-60 FPS

Thats surprising that you are pulling such low FPS. I have a similar system and I pull 80-90 with nothing and 60-70 under load

AMD FX-55
DFI LanParty Ultra-D
2GB G.Skill RAM
Built-By-Ati X800XL
Antec 550W TPII
SB Audigy 2 ZS
Maxtor 300GB HD
Two Optical Drives

For settings everything is on High 1280x1024 Resolution with 2x AA and 100% Draw Distance, I also have 4x AF via Omega settings.

Try using CCleaner and Driver Cleaner.

Haha, turns out it was a driver conflict! I ran driver cleaner and reinstalled the ati drivers, now I get expectable performance from BF2 (considering I only have 1 gig of ram).
